Favorite contest runs
« on: March 19, 2023, 02:25:39 AM »
The duel at diablo thread got me hyped to watch some more cool contest runs. While contests are definitely quite far from being my favorite aspect of skating, they've often lead to some very fun moments. Found a best ever contest runs thread but it is quite old and I'm more so interested in seeing whatever runs pals have personally found to be the most entertaining to watch over the years. Excited to see what people might post here. Here's a few of my own favorites:

And of course:

My favorite ones are Louie and Busenitz at Tampa. I recently saw this run on YouTube and it blew my mind:

pretty sure the brazilians did some sick runs during the olympics qualifying in protest of unfair judging, can someone run those back

2nd vote would be for PJ. sometimes it is a fine command of the english language to say nothing and he extended that to skating. PJ's plan B part is the emperor's new clothes.

I mean it's not a "run" but it might be the craziest trick ever done in a contest.

Pedro Barros contest runs are the best!

There was a contest in Europe in 2008 or so, where they tried to create an authentic street course by adding trash cans and plastic bushes to the street area. Stu Graham took a dump behind one of these bushes. Someone filmed it. I thought it was hilarious at the time. I still find it pretty cool.

What's the backstory on this??

They thought the judges were unfair to another skater (can't remember who, sorry) so decided to have awful runs to score lower than him

The skater was Tom Schaar. It was an Olympic qualifier contest and all the Brazilians were already qualified for the olympics so they didn't really have to worry about their placements
