Tried some trucks from Ace. I wanted to like them, I like the shape, but couldn’t do it. Thunders are officially the only choice.
Which aces did you try? What decks do you usually ride?

Sci-Fi 8.75 deck.

I should have grabbed the other deck I was looking at.
This Sci-Fi is too steep.
It’s a pity because it’s a rad looking setup. The colors spoke to me.

I could try lower trucks or smaller wheels. Maybe I could get used to it…perhaps I could even enjoy it.

Its existence is currently just making me mad though…maybe because I  already slammed on it after having scary near miss.

Possibly I’m being a baby about it.
Possibly cursed gear.
Probably baby.
you rode it with Aces?

Yeah, with AF160’s and some 2mm risers that I 3D printed.

I’ve since taken off the 2mm risers and put on some smaller wheels.

It feels a bit better but I’m still struggling with it.
It’s not so much the pop feel/angle that bothers me but nose and tail slides feel weird and scary on the steep nose and tail.

Over the winter I stocked up on boards on sale. I regret spending that money because boards last a long time for me now and I have a bunch just chilling. At least I got good deals on them. I might end up gifting some to friends, or maybe set a new one up and leave my old deck at a park for someone that could still put it to use.

Every pair of Bronson bearings I've had to buy because they're the only thing the shop had.

And ace trucks. Not a slight on them, I have just literally only rode indy's my entire life after my first toys r us board so that's how skateboards feel like they should turn for me. I don't know why I thought it would be a good idea to change trucks after however many years of skating.

I bought an 8.6 theories and an 8.75 traffic deck during their memorial day sale, only to immediately start skating and loving 8.25's ...

Bought a three pack of $27 primitives, too flat... decent shape, good dims, and surprisingly the Chinese wood was pretty good.. concave was super flat and mellow...

I love those decks, and the Chinese wood is genuinely as good or better than any domestic or Mexican deck I've skated in recent memory. If you regret that purchase, lmk and maybe I'll buy some more Primitive decks for my stash.

Actually before you do that, make sure they're not more than 12 months old, please.
This is not my SOTY. I'm telling my kids there was no SOTY for 2021

Boards should come with a harvest date, like weed.

Skaters are delusional- wood itself and the glues used to laminate a board have a pretty long shelf life as long as they are not in extreme conditions. The glue that holds the plies together is stronger than Titebond II, which has a strength in the thousands of pounds. The veneers are likely cured before pressing and any defects we would see in an old deck are from the woodshop, not the skateshop.

Nah, older decks are better, hear me out:

Since it's not an electric skateboard, then it's technically an acoustic skateboard, and when you cut wood for an acoustic guitar, that shits gotta season for a while. Your deck will for sure stay in tune better.

I feel like there is a good opportunity to bridge this thread with some kind of for sale thread?

I feel like I've PM'd someone here in the past about said deck they hated that I wanted to try out

I tried the AF1. Right now I’m riding an 8.3” quasi. It just felt wobbly and just “off”. Rooting for them cause it’s cool to see something new but had to go back to the ol trusty.

The Anti Hero Curb Crusher 8.5” with a 14” wheelbase. I wanted to see if I would like a shorter wheelbase, see if the pop really felt lighter and easier. I rode it a few times, but it just felt too cramped and unstable. Also, the shorter nose and tail  and relatively high concave weren’t for me.

Vans Half Cabs "33 DX Anaheim Factory OG". Ordered sight unseen and figured at the price ($50 Cdn) that they'd have a cheap insole I could just switch with PopCush ones. Well picked em up today and the insole is super thin, glued in and the uppers feel really thin yet rough somehow. Like what the US Slappers call a Kohls version I guess.

I think Alexis shoe... I'm pretty bummed since I liked them a lot and they skate pretty well but got some Achilles tendon pain and this never happened before so I'm blaming the 0 support heel of the shoe.
Anybody had a similar issue?

I had Achilles tendon pain for 12 years and healed it this year by learning an easy exercise that strengthens it. I raise my heel and stand on the forefoot of my shoe for 3 minutes each morning while waiting for coffee and it strengthens the calf muscle. It took away all pain in a couple weeks. I was doing calf raises for a long time before that but it never worked. There are videos etc online about it, just search rehab Achilles insertion injury

Will give it a try. Never had issues before except once last year while skating LL shoe. Maybe Cons are built in a way that's just not for me.
