Clearly a byproduct of when the tide turns from baggy pants back to slim-fit, while still being attached to puffy shoes for some reason. I think early 2000's popular opinion was that the bigger your feet, the bigger your meat, and a lot of dudes were reallllly holding onto that puffiness even when it came time to go rocker. Like they needed some nut huggers to match the trucker hat and studded belt but couldn't come to grips with how small their size 7.5 feet looked in Vans authentics so they started cutting / flaring their jeans thinking no one would notice. Crazy nobody has mentioned rocker era Koston in this thread. The absolute worst.

In Denmark we call these pants for trumpet pants

Jeans (regular fit) are called cowboy pants (in Danish, as well) and I have almost always been surfing in the cowboy category every time pants went from slim to baggy. It's just nice to not drown in fabric, but still be able to bend your legs

In Germany, these pants are called Schlaghosen and very strongly associated with Schlager, a sappy kind of pop music sung in German. That's probably the reason why I can’t imagine that any German skater will ever want to be seen in them even if (God forbid) they come back into fashion somehow. Think this:

One word, yuck! That bootcut jean era was so fucking horrendous, it seemed like pants in general during that time just fit terribly. His Yeah Right! part with these fits and that fucking Frank Black song just makes me cringe every time, like even as a small, impressionable child I wasn't feeling it. Would have taken the Menikmati part over that any day, at least he looked somewhat normal and not like a Rocket Power caricature.
