Meh. Most of those bands with the lame sort of skated answers just trying to get cred from the interviewers. Probably if they got interviewed by some obscure hobby magazine they'd claim they thought about it but never tried it sort of thing.
The way things are now it's easy to claim or rep skateboarding.
Good job! You have written out the obvious reason why bands answer that question in that way. I figured it was obvious, but in case you are too stupid to figure out why a band would awkwardly try to say they skate in an interview in a skate magazine, mr. magnet has explained it all.
