We're always hearing how hard and expensive it is to make new sole units, and how expensive the pour-in G6 foam is; so it seems wild to me that they got together the money to design and produce a new pour-in G6 sole unit, and the one on the Phocus is what they chose to go with.
The original pour-in G6 sole has been re-used on like 6 different shoes - I can't help but feel like it would have been better to use a more versatile design, like the one on the OG1 for example (which I think has no midsole foam at all?). That one is a little different from the regular one - has more of a sporty early 00's look - but could be used on a variety of different shoe models. With chunkier cupsoles being in demand right now, that could have been a good starting point for some nice new/original designs. You could use the sole from the Spanky/Slip Cup for slim/simple upper designs, and the hypothetical G6 OG1 sole for more chunky/sporty stuff.
Like many people, I find the Phocus borderline offensive to look at - mostly due to the sole - but I imagine that so much money was spent on it that we'll see it again on more shoes in the future.
