I wish James Kelch hosted this instead.

I know skateboarders seem to hate anyone who graduated high school and went to post secondary, but it’s nice to view some skate content that doesn’t have the phrases “sick” and “you know” every other sentence.

I’m thinking maybe Pulaski would be a good ep, but it seems like he’s doing SF chronologically, so maybe 3rd and Army?

That was perfect. There’s been a lot of stuff about Hubba Hideout but this brought new details and the architectural/urban development history was interesting.

Need an episode about 3rd and Army

think there's gonna be a fort miley episode

Does ft miley even have a ledge though? Or is it just the pyramid/hip things and the rails?

Either way, some more nice skate media to consume this afternoon.

I definitely saw previews for pier 7 and bay blocks in the trailer but would be cool to see a 3rd and army episode too.

Based off his IG, I believe it being a “public space” is also part of its remit.

Yeah, I didn't know how strict the requirements were to conform to the title of the show but the more the better.

I'd love to see this series keep going and include UCI, Lockwood, USC, The Brooklyn Banks, The Wedge (in AZ), Turtles, Eggs, The Venice Pit and Curbs, The Santa Monica Courthouse, Love Park, and so many other spots.

For sure, 3rd and Army would be a great episode, the gaps between the ledges which Huf lipslides are probably way longer in person than the videos would have you believe.

I'd gladly pay for a walking / skateboarding tour with Ted to learn the skate / architectural history of these legendary spots.

This is what I’ve been missing from teds retreat from social media . He’s a genuine history nerd and knows a fuck ton about cities he’s lived in skate history beyond the actual skating. He used to post really long stories on the bay areas architecture.  If Burnett had any sense he’d pay to send Ted around the world to do a bunch of these .

This. These are so sick. Love the break down of the architecture/architects.

I got a vague hint the next one is in the neighborhood of 3rd and Army

EMB seems like a wasteland these days, why dont they just put all the blocks back and make it a skatepark?
it’s not really a wasteland it’s super busy right there

I’m not sure that any school spots have enough of the urban planning history he is exploring in these. Tho I guess the OG USC ledges are in a public space and have the modernist aesthetic he is into. Agreed the list could go on and on.
I thought it wasnt just him solo, shouldve stuck with my og thought.

When I visited 3rd and Army a year or two ago, that was the most surprising aspect of the spot. The gap is pretty hefty, and definitely a little awkward to get the line right. That, and they're a bit taller than I expected, plus have been super rounded off over the years.

Its rad that plaza is still there

You just reminded me how much I miss Love Letters. I binged it during the beginning of Covid and it made me get back on my board after 10 years off. I really think Ted is doing great job with this new series and I hope he is able to take it world wide.

I still dig through youtube trying to find episodes I missed/haven't seen.... re-watched the Canada and LGBTQ+ eps last night. Those long cut videos turned out awesome.

I love when skateboarding is combined with knowledge/intelligence.

Can you think of any other vids or series that might scratch that itch?

I would watch full episodes of this. I grew up skating in the bay so I've been to these areas so many times and seen a lot of these landmarks Ted touches on countless times, so it's really nice to finally learn some more history about it. And I love how this series includes landmarks like that aluminum company skyscraper. I've taken so many photos with that building in the background and I've never known anything about it. Keep these coming!

I’m always in awe of the fact that hubba has be come synonymous with ledge considering they were talking about crack and not ledges.  Like every time that comes up I get sidetracked thinking about language and communication pre internet.  One of those facts I know, that surprises me every time I hear it again.

This series is off to a great start, all of the archival footage is awesome and really enjoy the civil development/urban planning aspect that’s intertwined. I think some people have a preconceived opinion of Ted being “insufferable”, but he comes off as genuine and informative in these first two vids. Hope Thrasher makes more of these.

Was gonna say they should do a China Banks one before it gets focused, but the already did.
