CYRUS! your favorite skater's favorite skater!
[close]

yo, Cyrus really is the truth. he’s like if you could make a real life create a player. on a side note, and say what you will about the man, but it still blows my mind that MJ never won SOTY.
Marc won in 2007.

lmaoooo! i did 15 seconds of research right after that and realized that. 🤣 made me remember I actually have the thrasher of him winning that year….somewhere. another one that never got it though, that I thought was crazy, is HSU. also blows my mind that chris senn ever won it. no disrespect to him, but sheesh.
This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

Skateboarding is nothing but a game to find the right fits to appear like you're a proportional human being instead of a midget or a giant.

Just watched that new Coda video and my vote is for Tony Farmer.  That dude is so gnarly.

Post Bangkok I'd say it should go to Tom. Tom winning would be all those guys winning, in a way, Jacob Harris included. I think their influence on skateboarding as the tribe that they are is a much bigger deal than any individual skateboarder in 2023. Cyrus. Max. Kyron. Chris. Casper. Mike. Remy. Nik. Chillvyn. Darius. Fucking Jacob and Tommy Tight Trucks.

Don't get me wrong I love Pedro and Yuto but I think it's fair to say that a win for Tom would be an inherent win for all of Atlantic Drift. You just can't fuck with that roster. Give SOTY to Darius or Chillvyn or Jacob even, it would all mean the same thing.

Birdman for SOTY. This barrage of random parts to win SOTY must end.

nyjah all the way!!!!!
gotta get it this year.

I’d rather watch edits for Nyjah’s video rather than Fat Bill Slobeck

It's still Yuto in my books based off his Nike Tokyo part, and his tricks down clipper.

But, Miles Silvas had that front crook cover, and supposedly has a part in the works.

Looking back at least year, I've realized putting out the gnarliest video part ain't a guarantee when it comes to the decision making process. One trick can take you out or send you to the top.

Max Palmer put out an insane amount of footage this year - and I think its some of his best to date.

AD Istabul
AD Bangkok
2 or 3 limo edits
Johnny's vid
7 ball
Probably a spitfire part

He's not really a SOTY skater but damn helluva year.

yeah all the Limo guys put out a ton of footage this year. best way to build your brand is through output, and they're doing a hell of a job. I still want Karim or Cyrus to win but Max has been great as well. I'd take any of those 3 for soty. wouldn't be mad at Knox simply bc he has like 4 kids or whatever and he gotta put food on their plates. shoutout all the dad skaters.

Was there a case where someone was am when they won soty?
[close]

Jamie foy was am for like the first 6 months the year he won.
[close]

He was actually announced as a new Am in January, won am scramble, announced pro in August, then won SOTY

https://www.deathwishskateboards.com/blogs/news/jamie-foy-welcome-to-deathwish

https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=485103281854928

It was the first of like 6 or 7 straight years in which Louie Lopez should have won

It's going to be Karen Caples this year. FA video is probably going to blow some minds.
Hopefully not a kook, but if so, fuck it.

I love Tom Knox but none of his stuff this year holds a candle to his AD or Vase full length parts. Curious about this Krooked part, which if it was full length would then make me recant this view. It'll be a weird first week of December but I'm sure Thrasher has seen all the latest entries and wrapped this up already.

For sure. I'm curious to see if we, meaning "core" skate culture at large, have learned to accept that SOTY is not an athletic competition with agreed-upon terms, but rather a subjective honorary award given out by one media outlet.

Just kidding, of course we haven't and if Pedro doesn't win I will riot in the streets.

Who represents skateboarding in the most purest form; and did some of the most mind-bending, memorable shit.  That’s who should get it.

And since SOTY needs to do some repair work with their credibility, perhaps another outlet should bestow an honor on someone.

Hell I don’t know… Skate Jawn SOTY. Quartersnacks SOTY. Berrics SOTY (whatever).

You know what? Fuq all that… SLAP SOTY.

He began a youtube venture, and although I didn’t watch all of the one video I started, I was shocked at the tone and level of humor he put into it. So I guess in that aspect he’s killin it…. I hope that one day after this next full length video is done, someone will say the same about my future YouTube #career.

That said, I feel like this has been an unconventionally slow soty race and the two front runners (in my eyes) are Cyrus and Richie “Imma slap the Richie out your name” Rizzo.

My post was a joke, I was making the point that really caring about who wins SOTY is dumb.

That being said, I do actually believe Pedro personifies a modernized way to Hellride™. He also has been repping Thrasher harder than pretty much anybody for years now, and rumors have it that his upcoming part is going to be mindblowing. We'll see.

I care enough to hope it’s Tom Knox because he’s had quality coverage all year. It’s been a good year for him I’d say.

I really do not like the swoop in at the end with a seven minute part style. You’re skater of December, not of the year! I wanna see the sprinkles, stayin on people’s minds.
