SOTY became a joke to many. After last years blunder I think a lot of people stopped giving a shit.

Between his Homies and Lakai footage, Cody Chapman deserves to be in the conversation.

If baker has a deathwish 2 + dickies video drop by the end of the year it might be Foy again
From recent Beagle interview in the nineclub, it seems like Foy sits on a lot of crazy stuffs

Has there ever been a thrasher soty that didn't live in the states at some point during their career? The passport kid would be my vote right now but it seems rather unlikely.

People saying sheckler are fucking tripping, only time he was somewhatrelevant was mtv and a couple of big kickflips around 2010. Definitely not his 2023 skating (which is actually ~2005 skating).

Right now Id say Jack O'Grady as I can't really think of any other big videos that have came out with as buck parts as his. I haven't watched the new Lakai video yet but I can't think of anyone other than Jack. Maybe Berle if FA drops a heavy vid, Ive heard Berle has some crazy LA footy hes been sitting on. I don't think Foy has a chance I think people are kinda over his rail chomping. I know I am

Hoping for Jack O'Grady at the moment

Was almost going to say Eetu Toropainen, but I think he's gonna need a couple of more years to compete for the title. He went fucking sick boy on the nike 7-ball video, but he's not even pro yet so can't put him down as a real contender yet.

I'm predicting that hes gonna get SOTY during the next 5 years

Actually disregard my last post, Eetu in 7 ball was so fucking gnar. Hes def my vote so far I forgot about that part

he won't actually win, but Patrick Praman has had a big year. 3 Seasons video, Am Scramble, Real VX edit for Red Bull, Pro Part (and went pro obviously). Ads in the mag and whatnot. Definitely deserves to have a lil square graphic as a contender this year imo

Mason had a big part this year and could see him dropping another 1-2 before the end of the year. If he does, he could take it again. Haven't seen a whole lot from Louie yet but it would be a travesty if he never won it before he leaves his prime years.

few other notable nods:

Ryan Thompson (3 parts in a week)
Akwasi (Sci-Fi part, Asics video)
Griffin Gass (ORCA Card part earlier this year, split part with Jasper recently, Lakai vid)
Vitoria Mendonca (went pro, big part for Element)
Sebo Walker (part in Land was nuts, deserves a nod imo)
Nick Matthews (Am Scramble, Thrasher cover, Huf video about to drop, clips in a bunch of other stuff, generally killing it)
Curren Caples (big part for Vans, killed it in a bunch of contests and random events, big move to FA, etc.)
Alexis Sablone (not much footy this year but has been a big cultural force with the new shoe, event at the Gug, new skate shop, designed that really cool park in Jersey, etc.)

Doubt any of these people will actually win but I think they all deserve to be in the "contenders" group. If O'Grady puts some more stuff out I think he'll probably take it in all reality, but it's still very early and there's probably some dark horse skaters that haven't done much yet that will end up dropping a ton at the end of the year and making a strong case for themselves.

Unironically, Beatrice Dummond.

Beatrice is gonna be on the big list of contenders calling it now

My vote is not for shecks. That said, his You Good drop in made me a fan again and seems like that was a turning point for his perception.  Most people are finally over bs flip el toro. Was a fan in round 3 era cuz i was young when that came out.

I really hope for Sheckler..

How he gave everything body and soul for his new part, explained in the documentary, it is simply admirable.  :D

I would have liked Romero too, but many don't understand this guy's talent.. It's The Reynolds of the handrails ahah

Walker Ryan - not backed by big brands
Cookie - consistent content production
Curren - everywhere these days, great vans part
Sebo - destroyed the tech game in the land. the ollie south at burnside lives rent free in my head.
Jack O - probably the front runner, the most hell ride part of the year

In reality every year it should look like: GT v Louie v Ishod

Ryuhei already has 2 parts in the bag that no one has a chance touching.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWhNG1K5YRQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMMXXfb_u2Y

If we are talking about best video parts of the year, he has already won it by a landslide.

If he were to put out a third part that rivaled the LENZ III part closer to the deadline... i think he actually could have a chance at winning it because then it would wake people up about the insane footage he ALREADY DROPPED and it would be a shoo-in. Yuto made a comment he is his favorite skater (he is just a few years older than Yuto). I can't see Thrasher doing it simply because they have other riders that they want to push harder who film in America. The sad thing is it feels like you need to do like NBDs in the states for Thrasher to care about counting you for SOTY.

It’s a tactic to sell magazines and it’s kinda always been best skater who skates primarily in America bc it’s an American mag.   Australian SOTY does the same with with their country (I forget which mag does it).

Romero is sick but i dont think he is 2x soty sick. But now that i think about it, some of the 2x winners are kinda lame.

That was so good. I'd love to see someone so unexpected like this get it.

I want Antonio Durao to be a serious contender this year. There's some Nike Jordan video he was in, the Brooklyn Banks tricks, the switch tre noseblunt cover. I think there'll be SkateMental and Hardbody parts this year. I see he just had a part in Johnny's Vid today.

Or give it to Chris Colbourn to make everyone happy. Worble video...pepper griptape part...probably some other stuff I missed...
