RIP Rodriguez

A lesser known and massively under appreciated artist, but one of the greats. His album Cold Fact was a big inspiration to the movement against apartheid. I won’t spoil it too much, but the documentary Searching for Sugarman is a great watch.

I saw him live about 8 years ago and it was such a wholesome and peaceful show

Bummed to see this. He was a great musician. In the doco he was fairly broke from memory, I hope he finally got some deserving material wealth from the hype of the doco

Got into him during Covid, as I always remember a mate of mine going on about him and saying about him receiving fame at a later period of his life. So glad I got listening to him when I did, such a great songwriter.

I hope he got to receive a little something towards the end of his life as he deserved a comfortable life for the music he wrote.

Might watch In Search of Sugar Man again this weekend now.

Searching for Sugar Man is an absolute masterpiece. Glad he got the recognition he deserved before he was gone. Rest easy.

damn jealous. saw him at coachella right after the doc came out, mid-day in one of the tents. it was packed and ppl were excited, but the sound was totally fucked for some reason and they just couldn't fix it. it's the only performance i've ever seen ruined by tech dif's at coachella. they played through it but you couldn't really hear anything and it kept feeding back, total bummer

Was floored by his more 60s pop stuff when I first heard it.
