I'm 49 now and was on the periphery of the NYC version of this scene for years (2011-2019ish). I was on the young side; most were already in their mid 50s.

I imagine it's pretty much the same anywhere with a decent bowl.  Most were all great guys but the "only skating bowls" thing was just too much for me.

I only have the picture and the first line of the article to go on though, that WSJ paywall might as well be Fort Knox to me.
