Portland, Maine
« on: September 08, 2023, 09:22:29 AM »
i just recently moved to Portland, ME and i'm on the hunt for spots! i can't skate anything too gnarly, but some medium obstacles or even just open space for flat. ideally somewhere i'd be relatively undisturbed. i'm especially curious about covered spots like garages for rainy/snowy days.

let me know or PM if you're in the same area, i don't have any friends here yet!

update:

i checked out the medical center garage on congress st. since it's closed on weekends. totally empty and no one bothered me for like 2 hours. oh and the pavement was much nicer than the streets around here. great stuff!

seems weird that so much visitor and patient parking at the hospital is closed on weekends, but i guess i'll take it lol

I moved here not too long ago either, there's already a old Portland, ME thread in this Travel section with some good info but lately there have been more parks built/expanded on in the area.

South Portland skatepark is brand new since the spring and is now mostly quiet now that the Portland skatepark just got it's expansion done. Both parks are a lot of fun with a mixture of chill street stuff and transition.

If you go around downtown there are a lot of good spots, you would probably like the ledges at corner of Deering St and Mullen since people don't bother you there.

Would also recommend checking out Sal's skateshop in South Portland they're really nice dudes there and have welcomed outsiders like me and would be happy to give you suggestions.

i actually have been frequenting portland park, i moved here juuuust as the expansion finished. we might've crossed paths. it's really sick, but sometimes a little crowded and i'm absolute shit at transition. guess it's time to learn

excited to check out the ledge on deering if it ever stops raining, too

Nice! yeah I find Portland to be really fun, true it gets pretty crowded but it was a lot worse before the expansion. But yeah we prob have skated there at the same time lol

SoPo used to be like that but once Portland got finished now it's kinda dead. I was there a lot last week to escape the sun since they have the street section covered in shade from the trees and there was only one or two people/kids there each time I went. Could get there pretty easily if you got a bike or a cruiser set up, not too far from Portland park at all.

Hopefully I catch ya at the park again or even at the ledges, might go this weekend once the storm clears!

Welcome to the area! The Deering/mellen ledges are solid ledges. Also recommend checking out wayneflete school, they have some ledges out front, some small sets, and some taller ledges. The new parks in the area are great. Portland is pretty dry for spots compared to other areas of the state in my opinion.
