i dont think this would be the worst job in the industry but whoever had to film Fred Galls day in the life i heard went to jail multiple times in a day. Which is the most Fred Gall thing Slap will hear all year.

shout out to Patrick O'dell who filmed the chaos that was the Antwuan Dixon episode

I think being any kind of skate-related YouTuber is automatically the worst job in skateboarding

Didn’t a few years ago Berra set up an emergency meeting with like 5 or 6 “core” brands because the more prolific skate YouTubers were making way more money than the average pro? But Instead of finding ways to pay pros more the brands just made shitty YouTube videos themselves for a couple years…

I don’t know about the meeting, but there’s no way that John Hill and Aaron Kyro are not among the highest paid skateboarders in the world.

Probably being a bangladesh sweatshop worker

Yeah I was gonna say probably an Uyghur Nike sweatshop worker or China woodshop employee

This is it.

And the only thing that might be worse are the poor fucking schmucks who have to read SLAP threads trying to glean some kind of consumer insight.

If YT didn’t pay creators we wouldn’t even be talking about them

I would think being a middle aged box packer for like CCS must not feel too great but then again, I’m sure it’s super low stress and you get to be in involved in something you’re passionate about. The second thing that comes to mind is whoever was TM for termite back in the day. Trying to manage a group of young, hyper skate rats on a trip couldn’t have been fun.

Trying to make profitable a skate brand called Freedome seems to be a pretty hard job. There is evidence.

I can’t imagine how funny the stories are from whoever Beatrice regularly talks to at Vans. Because she’s not going to put out anything just to put it out you know man, she’s a real deep thinker yo she might call you at 4am talmbout “has anyone ever done the stripe backwards?? I think that would really show the nuance of my struggle.” and you’re not allowed to laugh at her. Can’t be easy.

Also: pro flow FA warehouse worker who probably should have gotten fully on back in 2013 instead of Terps.. but has has since blown his knee out and has to pack Beatrice boards for skateshops. That’s gotta sting right in the ACL.

You think being brand manager for NHS is a shitty job? What’s a good job?
[close]

Idk what good lucrative jobs exist in skateboarding, but being any kind of salesman sounds unappealing.

Maybe a good skate job would be designing a park and/or building said park. Something you can do with your hands.
[close]

That actually does sound like a cool job, but I bet there's only like 3 people designing skateparks in the entire US

Sounds like a convo between 2 people who have never contributed to a build or have any idea what goes into skatepark design. “3 people” lmao

i think it'd be a tough job, you have to travel a lot and i don't think many of the core companies are providing you with hotels or anything, looks like they basically just make the workers camp out fucken hellride style

the work would be super satisfying though

i was thinking it would be sweet to have a job in skateboarding but theres just no money in it. i would love to work at the warehouse, i would work my ass off there but its nowhere near where I live and i know the money is trash. i would just enjoy being able to see all the new product first hand right away and always being able to see differences of all these different boards etc. and talk to others working there about skateboarding sounds awesome to me!

There's probably at least 3 designers on each of the big park contractors, and obviously many laborers on any given site

Plus you're basically an architect whose work is critiqued everyday so there's that. Still probably a more rewarding job than doing general industry networking.
Wow sorry, didn't realise I was dealing with a sick cunt here

I said this a million times, but I knew a guy who worked at several local skate shops, and he was always getting shit all over by the bosses, never made any money, and never had health insurance or anything like that. He started working at CCS, and they gave him insurance, paid him more than he had ever made it skate shop, and is generally much happier there than at the super exploitative local shops.
