terrible name for a skateboard company. people are going to think they make carpets. just like acme didnt have pro models and everyone thought it was that company from looney toons and made skateboard shaped holes in the ground that youd fall through

I thought skateboard companies had teams?

No one actually rides for this brand (based on the website and ig), so technically it's the worst guest boards because it's their way of avoiding paying riders while still getting temporary representation.

Never noticed this and now I think of carpet as some culture vultures.

I think it's just homies supporting homies. I see no harm in it. I don't think they sell it as if they have a team to begin with.
There are people who skate and film for carpet on the website (in the lookbook) and on their instagram as well. Those people are not just randoms.

Right...they're not randoms. They're friends with the owners. I've been down to a few of the store openings and it's always the same dudes. The oness that help screen-print, work in the warehouse, etc. etc. are all friends that hangout and skate together. Whether the Carpet dudes pay them to do this shit, who knows, but I would imagine there is some kind of compensation (albeit free decks, clothes, etc).

I know they're working on some kind of skate video at the moment which it seems Ayman & Osama (the owners) are editing themselves in their spare time (not sure who is filming).

Sorry. My comments were more toward the person who called them "culture vultures". And yeah your're 100% right. It's folks who are at the openings, skating together, etc. Just want them to get their shine as they're really good dudes.

As for the video, we'll see. I've know/seen that they have plenty of footage. (Nnamdi Ihekwoaba is handling a lot of the DC/Baltimore footage.) But it's tough when the editors are also doing everything from design to screening to fulfilling orders to every other thing for the company. At it's heart, it's really a two person operation. With that said, PLEASE PUT OUT THE VIDEO GENTLEMEN!!!!!

Thanks for clarifying. Ayman & Osama are absolutely some of the nicest dudes I've ever met and they really have their heart in Carpet Company which shows.

I am very stoked on the video. I'm sure there will be a premiere of some sort which would be sick to attend since I'm < 2 hours from Baltimore.

So it sounds like they should be putting on their squad instead of giving out guest boards for people that don't need it right?

I thought you give guest boards to people that skate with your team, as an homage to the friendship. I don't have any idea what this brand's image is besides being habibis. Is it only habibi skaters? I loved the dunks they designed, lasted twice as long as any others.

Don't get me wrong, love the personalized plastic bags on the decks and the graphics, but the company has other milestones to hit before handing out guest boards to known pros. I would rather be put on to timmy no name with the sw v heel bs tail in Baltimore or something along those lines.

unrelated, but upon doing further research I stumbled on a fully carpeted skatepark in Pittsburg. (Their TF?)

Looks like a fun challenge with some 60mm's

i like their approach and the amount of care and thought they put into their products, but their graphics are severely hit or miss, ranging from cool to absolutely horrendous, like the shadow dude from korn self titled album cover screened in the most garish color palettes possible. i think most of the guest graphics have been good though.

You're sure making a lot of pointed suggestions for someone who admittedly has no idea what the brand is about.

Isn't this where we ask each other questions about skate stuff?

I'm hoping someone can explain the reason behind pro guest boards for a brand that doesn't have any pros of their own.

Maybe the reason is just that that's how they choose to run their business. Trying to wrap up every company into an archetype isn't the right way to look at this topic - especially in 2023.

Carpet, as far as relatively modern companies go have always worked a bit differently than other brands starting with the way they create their product.

If a company doesn't want to pay a team or have a roster, it's probably either what makes financial or sense or sense from a marketing perspective. Saying that they should hit certain milestones before taking this step would make sense if all brands were expected to operate the same way.

So it's two guys running the whole thing, I stopped counting the retailer skateshops on their website after seeing over 50 locations, and it's available via CCS. The high-priced clothing items and major corporate collabos make me believe that financial sense isn't the motivation for this marketing strategy. However, attaching your brand name to a well-known pro is sure to create temporary hype and then you don't have to pay a salary, just royalties. Definitely makes financial sense, but considering the standing archetype is successful for a reason, this move just gives off a "fuck you, pay me" vibe. It's much easier to make money off a subculture when you don't have to invest anything back into it.

It's 100% weird and kinda lame that they don't have a team. All their shit is sold out on the website so they got the money to pay a coupla rad locals, but no. You gotta give something back to the skate community other than $128 jeans and $42 tshirts, but no.

Definitely weird they don’t have a team. I’ve heard of people “being on” but what’s the mystery? Why keep your team secret until the video?

I guess it’s Quinn Batley and Rashad Murray maybe?

My tattoo artist (who skates simply casually. Can do manuals, maybe a kickflip or two) in Baltimore is friends with Osama & Ayman and he hung out with them at their warehouse this week with some other homies and they just gave them a bunch of free decks, shirts, and accessories. So maybe their way of not essentially "paying" their "riders" is by giving them free shit of whatever they want. Maybe people are cool with that, who knows. But it seems everyone who helps out with production, warehousing, drop days, and skates are literally just all friends together.

I reckon these guys have regular jobs and skate with/help out Osama and Ayman when they can.
