You know, I was thinking about starting a thread about this too!

Learned Wenning was approached to join Lakai in the beginning.   Def a weird alt reality there.

Love this podcast! Agree that's it's way better than the Mostly Skateboarding Pod. Probably the second best skate pod after the Bunt.

Some guest episode are good but most of the time they juste seem out of touch and repeat the same shit over and over. They often get confuse talking about riders or video. But I understand they jobs, kids and all and this is their passion project
Also I have bingo card when patrick is on :
If he use a football analogy or compare skating with his music carrer, talk about lucas puig, short shorts, diss the music of the video they are talking about and will say  « tim and henry » or « rocco ».

But sometimes it’s cool and I still listen to it so probs to them

I’ll def check this pod tho

This old guy host once sent me a box of used! boards that had zero concave.  Now he just does Mini Logo advertisements constantly.   Hard pass.

Seriously though, 500 Fahrenheit was enjoyable, but I do like these better.

Good to see SLAPs own 144 talking shoes. Very cool for a shop manager to be honest but nice at the same time. 22 years is skateboard retail is dedication. Respect due.

Gotta add anytime Patrick uses an opportunity to speak French to that BINGO card too.

I enjoy both podcasts and am confused as to why these two are even being compared since they don't really attempt to have similar content like the various skateboarding interview podcasts (Nine Club, Bunt, Skate Creative, Talkin' Schmitt, etc.).

Mostly Skateboarding is a roundtable discussion focused on recapping the week, current events, and the occasional interview, usually with a non pro/am. When they do interviews, they do a good job finding interesting people who are involved in skateboarding but not paid to skateboard. And they may be the most diverse group speaking on these topics, which is admirable as well.

Dead Air nerds out on trivial skateboarding stuff/nostalgia, product reviews, some current event stuff too. Like Blair Alley said in that Podus Operandi intro, "it's kinda like skateshop talk". If anything, their recent TWS parts and Static series review episodes with Blair makes their show more comparable with "Vert Button" and "All My Skate Videos".

Both approach topics with honest opinions and that's what I appreciate the most.

I can't stand that Patrick Kikongo dude. Wears the worst fits while being so ass at skateboarding all while talking with authority about both fits and skating. He's basically skate twitter embodied.

I'll tune in to Mostly Skateboarding on my commute but it's not mandatory weekly listening if the topic has zero appeal to me. I appreciate a more mature take on the industry as opposed to Vert Button which had some fun episodes but every other word was gnarly / rad / insane. My biggest gripe with their podcast is they fade out the intro song too quickly, let that shit ride for a couple of seconds. The song they stick at the end of episodes is usually good, I've been listening to the George Michael cover of Killers + Papa Was A Rolling Stone for a bit ever since they recommended it a few weeks back.

DOA is good to have on while working for white noise. I rarely watch the video, just having it on YT playing.

It’s cool for the most part. I like the insight of what does well in shops, also reading and responding to YouTube comments of a video he just reviewed was oddly captivating.

What will ultimately hold this podcast back is that the  viewers already know every skateboarding take the hosts will have just by looking at them. If someone put a gun to my head and told me to draw 40 something year old skateboarders from Upstate New York it would look 85% like the hosts. I already know how they feel about Static 6 and I haven’t even seen it yet.

I fuck with the DOA podcast, actual skate nerds and people who have/had an inside scoop and can actually give us insight and dope behind the scenes stories.

Mostly Skateboarding on the other hand is some dudes (and a girl now too) who like skateboarding and are somewhat involved in their scenes but are so fucking out of touch. Usually they try and sound somewhat smart/sophisticated but it ends up coming out as dated. Also, they mispronounce 90% of the names.

I'm not saying all skate podcast hosts need to be ex-pros, but they should at least be able to kickflip.

Only listened to a few DOA episodes but so far I’m really liking it. The two shoe episodes were really good even if I don’t necessarily agree with all of the opinions stated.

Mostly Skateboarding is why I hate 90’s nostalgia and one of the main hosts was randomly really snarky to me on Twitter.

Yeah Patrick always comes off as a dick and I’m sorry but I will never take a 90s skater’s very snarky opinions seriously when they can’t kickflip, let alone barely pop an ollie.

I won a sticker pack on D.O.A instagram. It was a very Canadian question about Bob and Doug Mckenzie, I answered correctly and gave my address. For some reason dude was shocked a Canadian got it right and never sent the stickers. Said he'd get back back to me after checking shipping. Never heard from D.O.A again

That would be me.  Sorry for not sending but international shipping is the worst and I hate the post office. Had you been in the states I’d have sent them no problem

Also thanks to everyone who seems to enjoy the podcasting. It’s been fun to do, and lets me talk skating with a whole bunch of people at once.

I listened to a few episodes during work this week and I found the core shoe episode with response to be the most interesting. Two comments:

1.) I also had many Telfords and I thought the originals were better than dunks for skating. I was pumped when I saw their return but immediately bummed when I saw that they slimmed down the sole. Needless to say I did not make the same mistake as the host in buying them.

2.) I get that sole tech seems to have a spaghetti on the wall approach to shoe development and marketing, but the sole that they use for the silo and Quattro plus is the most comfortable and supportive sole I have ever skated. I do not care for the look of the shoes they are on but for anyone with old, flat and wide feet I couldn’t recommend a shoe more.
