best boardgame
« on: September 18, 2023, 11:19:10 PM »
i was just making a cup of tea and thinking about boardgames for some reason. maybe give us your top 3?

i always loved Scattergories!
also UpWords (was never that into scrabble)
then i would say Backgammon

oh i also used to really love Othello (which is kind of like checkers)

I saw a beautiful antique Go board at the op shop a few months ago and wanted to buy it but didn't - i've never played Go but it seems cool.

I don't know if this is really a board game, but Pass the Pigs is radical.

MiltonBradley must've been making some mad money back in the day!

Growing up pass the pigs was this weird thing that seemed like only my house had but turns out it's a cult classic. Maybe we never played it right but I feel like people like the novelty of it but after 5-10 mins were pretty bored.

The one with the turning board and little fish that pop up and you catch them with little rods.
Guess who and battleship are pretty alright for a two person game. Battleship maybe a little better because you can play it just on paper.

Rush hour was sick.

i know i could google it, but in the interest of expanding the thread - please tell me about rush hour, i have never heard of it.

i was always super jealous of people who had guess who. i remember they had it at my primary school and i was pretty hyped whenever it was pulled out.

anyone played Carcassonne? cool tile game where you claim properties and use the tiles to build cities and roads and such. Fun with 2 people and even better with more players (up to 5 or 6)

Also was just reminded of heroscape.... goddamn my dad and I were such nerds....

Man i played so many games at my last job. Low level little kid games like candy land and sorry.

Ticket to Ride is fun. I tend to play in a seemingly erratic way, kinda like railroad barons of yore. shutting down any and all competition like a true capitalist. Thats the point of the game, right?

Loving the love for the Pass the Pigs.

I only recently got it again and we played it every night for a few weeks.

I don't know that I actually liked the game all that much, but the gimmickry of Game of Life always excited young me.

Headache is dope too! Or Trouble, pretty much the same anyway.

Sorry!, classic checkers, and Mancala are my go to board games. I haven’t tried half of the ones listed here, though. I grew up with a family that didn’t play board games or do much together in general.

More card game than board game but Saboteur is a fun time, easy to pick up and you'll be second guessing your friends every turn. Played a lot of it during my time in the army before smart phones became commonplace.

Clue / Cluedo is another good logic based one, the rules can be intimidating for a start but it forces everyone to stay involved to pick up clues. The movie is a classic too.

These all look really cool! Not sure what the gameplay is like, but I feel like with board games, the look of it and the aesthetic pleasure of the plastic bits and pieces and cards etc has a lot to do with how fun they are.

Was pretty into the game after a few session and started watching YT vids on how to win. You glean more information from what other players are doing during their turn as opposed to you own, hence the need to stay involved every turn.

My brother's and old dad have been playing them for years and still never get bored. They're simple and easy to play as short or long as you want. Fishin Time you get fucked over 90% of the time trying to get a fish but the game is hilarious as shit for what it puts you through, probably my favorite.  Fishing Frenzy is less fuckover and more keep catching fish to win, still a great game id recommend anyone.  The last one is a good balance between the two.  All are great stuff for literally anyone to pick up in 1 minute and have fun
