Rector street bench in New York was way harder to skate than it looked in videos. You see clips of people flipping into it and popping over the gap easily, then you show up and it's taller than you think and the gap is further than fisheye makes it look.

Pretty obvious 1, but China Banks. I think it's been about 12 years since I went, and now that I'm older, I skate a lot more transition. But even if I went today, I can't say that I'd be able to do ANYTHING let alone something "film worthy" even for a nobody skateboarder like myself.

tons of spots in Barcelona seeemed much harder to skate in person.

something that stands out from there is the gap at macba off the big long ledge, basically into the street, or into the bank that goes into the street. That gap is so fucking gigantic. I think someone BS bigspinned into it ?

I remember getting to love park as a kid and being dumbfounded that it was only the two corridors on the top level like a big V, it just felt so much bigger from watching it on film .

I been there once and had the same experience. Also the set was soooo far I couldn't fathom jumping that.

Every spot in Boston = way rougher ‘n tougher when you go there in real life. New England in general, really. Some spots in NYC aren’t as big as they look on video, an exception was the Brooklyn banks. The big bank is so steep, blew my fuckin mind that Stevie did a switch tre into it. Also sad that people seem to forget just how crazy everything that went down on the big rail/set really is. Trainwreck, Nick Dompierre, Billy Rohan etc etc are all madmen for what they’ve done there.

Most spots are shittier in person.

Only ones that I’ve seen that look as advertised is the rail at Durham Courthouse and those yellow half domes in Brooklyn.

Did you ever do anything on the half domes? I wanted to ollie up and ride-on lipslide down but all I managed was some ollies and rides. Of course as always with skate spots, I imagined I'd be able to at least ride up n down em easier.
If my rep is ever an even number, please kindly throw me either a kook or a gnar in order to return me to my odd number equilibrium.

I didn’t do anything crazy, I think I did a nollie to ride on and an ollie on to back 180 off.

Philly locals were way more chill and friendly than I was led to believe. FDR is definitely gnarlier than it looks and it already looks pretty gnarly. And seconding whoever mentioned Tranquility. So much is weird about that spot unless you have it dialed. Never got more than a boardslide there.

Forgot one closer to home... the pancakes in New Orleans (random photo via Google):

They're fun to skate, but they dip down where you pop, and your landing is slightly inclined on the next stack. Not sure if they're skateable right now, but when you first see images of them they look normal gaps, definitely have to feel them out first.
