How the fuck do you inward heel
[close]

Nollie and switch
[close]

I agree. But again, HOW the fuck do you make the board do it. It’s a fucking mystery to me. I’ve done exactly one in each stance in my 15 years of skating and fakie is the only one I’ve ever actually rolled away doing the same speed I started with.
[close]

fakie is definitely the easiest, largely because halfcab heel is the easiest heelflip to rotate (in my opinion) - i don't still think this way but when i learnt all the inward heels i tricked myself into it with the though of doing a bs heelflip (or frontside in the case of the nollie one) but as you flick (around the halfwayish point) you like body varial back the way you came - like a front board shuv out if you know what i mean. Then eventually you can chill out on the twisting and do it all with your feet. hope that made some sense...

Yup I fully grasp the concept, time to put it to work. I always sucked at fs flips but can hardflip no problem, and tried to used that same mind trick to help me out to no avail. Maybe I just never tried hard enough.

I believe I speak for a substantial portion of SLAP when I say the one thing that truly keeps us collectively up at night is: what pants is (pro/am X) wearing in that one clip?

I wanna play you in a game of SKATE for the right to continue talking shit on me.  You think you got me?

Which widely praised skater turned board company owner and seminal artist/auteur/public intellectual is more insufferable: Marc Johnson or Jason Dill? I usually start the night off leaning to Jason Dill, but quite quickly I have to acknowledge Marc Johnson is more menacing and aggresive in reinventing himself as a tortured, underappreciated genius. If I'd put them on a scale of delusional self-absorption, I think Johnson's more obvious insecurity and bitterness make him more troublesome.

Normally I come to a point where I envision myself at a desert island with them. We'd probably do some psychedelics and Dill would not even let me speak between his never-ending monologues, whereas Johnson could actually just flip when I try to make some small talk on Fully Flared and start a killing spree.

Shane O'Neill looks like hes in a video game when he skates because of his lack of facial expressions, not his tricks

Will all the new local skater kids accept me when I'm in my 50s and still try my best to learn new shit?
It's hard enough to skate around people in my current great physical shape, I don't know if I'm gonna be able to handle it mentally when I get worse at it. I need to make enough money to have a private skatepark asap.

2 things will happen.  You wont care and you basically become invisible to young dudes when you hit your late 40s.  It's sick.

What makes you think you'll get worse in the first place? I am 46 and in a better shape than I was in the last 20 years or so. As long as you exercise and maintain a healthy diet, there is no reason to think your body will get much worse.

On another note, most people that see me skate around give me props for it, in particular younger kids or old dudes will respect an old geezer working on heelflips. And as @radcunt mentioned, the teens will just ignore you.

41 here. I have young people give me props for the stupidest easiest tricks in the world. It’s like I’m getting pity stoke :(

Maybe kids are nicer these days… maybe they’re excited to see the old geezer do something relatable. Maybe they’re just sharing what I give them when they land their tricks.

I don’t know… I just kind of laugh to myself because the absurdity of getting stoke for doing a 5050 or a nose slide. Maybe they’re stoked for me for having fun.

I don’t know.. it’s just kind of silly, really because I know I’m not doing anything impressive.

(You’re lucky! I am definitely not in my best shape ever. Everything makes me hurt the next day a little, and I get out of breath so much quicker.)

Shit man, working at a skate shop was always my dream, too. Go work at Zumiez. Fuck. Why not?

But at least go ask the local if you could work there one day a week at least to get started, and if they say no, then go do Zumiez to get to experience working at a “shop”. At least you would be surrounded by skate stuff all day, and you would still get inane questions from customers just like a real skate shop (but maybe less, haha).  You never know… maybe you would bring some legitimacy to the Zooms, and they’d make you regional manager, then you’d be ballin’.

I got some wheels for you. They’re 54mm, kind of like a conical full or a bones V6, blue and yellow, 103a, “SPF”. I won them in a contest and they are just too hard for me to skate. My joints are too brittle 😆 if you’re interested shoot me a PM.

Is that why no one skate handrails anymore except Zero and Nyjah? Rails are just to hard and dangerous?

yo so this is some super stoned shit i thought about the other day but i was thinking would i have been better at skating if i started skating goofy? i’m regular footed and left handed and as a kid i thought everyone picked their stance based on left/right handed. so i wonder if switch would be more natural if i was goofy foot instead of regular footed in a weird sort of ambidextrous way. anyone else ever thought about this ?

Not that I’ve done many, I think maybe 3 tops, but front 5050’s on rails are so much scarier than they should be, compared to 5-0’s. Props dude.

I usually end up with some bright idea of a trick I’m trying to learn or something I want to film. Then I go try it the next time I skate and it turns out my idea wasn’t that great.

How many pros / public facing industry heads are posting here under anonymity? And which of them is posting/posted the most disparaging remarks that would otherwise boot them from the community/their sponsors if their identities were exposed?

Will switch back tails become less scary to try tomorrow? At this point I don't even need to land it. I just want to get in one, and slide without fear of slipping to my face.

It doesn't happen often but every once and a while i'll be chatting with a stranger at a skate park and they'll say a slapism or start talking about something relevant to a current thread on UWTB.
Sometimes their word choice is so sus and slap relevant that it feels like i am being phished in real life to out myself as a slap consumer/ poster.
I have yet to reach a point in any one of these IRL conversations where anyone admits they come here, but the unspoken realization that we're one big slap family both online and offline is what keeps me sleeping soundly every night  ;)

I loose sleep over carving over shallow end stairs and weird mouse-hole type features in Dreamland style parks.

I've done a few but I have such a mental block over something that is technically very easy....
