New set up: canon xa11 + mk1 58mm screw fisheye + random mic. It’s a little front heavy currently so probably gonna try to rig up some kind of weight through the tripod mount off the back to counterbalance it.

You have any test footage with the fisheye, just curious to see and hear what it looks and sounds like

Sure, excuse the dirty tadashi filter. Mic was set to -10 db with low cut filter on.

Recently made a camcorder setup for filming 4:3 HD

Canon HF G26
Opteka 52mm Fisheye (1 adapter, 1 spacer)
Sennheiser MKE 400
SmallRig Top Handle

Here's a short skatepark skate video I filmed with it if anyone's interested:

Also I wanted to ask; since I am using the GH5 on a VLog color profile, does anybody think that this color profile could be added in post to get close to the one the vx1000 has? so far I must say that the results coming out of color correcting a VLog are really good, it could come out amazing If color corrected just as a vx..
someone would have to shoot both of them side by side and then create a lut to match them, which is not only very hard, but every vx1000 looks slightly different depending on the year, the model (american, japanese, european) and if there is any lens fogging, custom preset settings, etc. I'm sure you could get close but it would take some work.

https://www.cinematch.com/

CineMatch does this with other cameras, but I don't know how they achieve the initial profiles.

Ive been thinking about getting a cheap camcorder to film a little with, not just skate but in general too just to have a new format to play around with. Its not optimal for skate sure, but i feel like if its cheap and it comes in a small package i'll use it more and dont have to baby it.

Anyone have experience with camcorders and can recommend something newish and cheap? As long as its got SD card, new batteries avalible and fairly sall sized im pretty happy.

hasnt come in the mail yet but I just snagged a sony hdr cx700 off ebay for 300. Planning to add a handle and use it with my nikon fc-e9 fisheye. It does 1080p 60fps but its pixel count is low since its early HD so it's not crazy sharp like these damn 4k cameras even when you put them in 1080. I have used many of the different sony hdr / sdr series cams and I quire like them.

You could probably find a bit cheaper a sony xr 520, i believe that one is 1080i.

I was looking into the hdr cx760 to mount my mk1 onto, but all the sony camcorders after that point have "balanced optical steady shot" where the sensor is on a gimbal inside the camera and you can see the lens jiggle around inside the camera body. I figured that would cause vig shake with a fisheye even with steady shot turned off. But if you arent planning to mount a fish than probably amazing for long lens

curious to know if anyone knows about that balanced steady shot shit as i really want to try some of those newer sony cams with my mk1.

havent used em but panasonic tm900 looks amazing as well with the 3mos sensor

Turns out my old Raymod fisheye has the same thread size as the Bolex 581. Focuses to infinity and vignetting isn't too wild.

I am into video for almost 25 years.I shoot on all formats but I like low res or analog video for its rendering on specific shots.I like the way it looks the colors and the blurr.
HD or any digital camera are good to catch action, skating or when it comes to film detailed subjects like filming in the wild, macro shots etc.

Panasonic HC-X2000 for long lens. GoPro 8 HEROBLACK/Canon 80-D EOS with a Rokinon 8MM fisheye for wide angle clips.

Still got the VXs (and TRV) that I can't part with, which is lucky since I'm using a VX1 for a project a mate's doing that is a mix of HMC and VX stuff for a part.

Then, a VX2100 with a Raymod I bought as a back up lens to help finish a project for a mate, where most sessions often end up being quite heavy and a second filmer is needed.

The XF100 is still my main cam, but kinda cool to have the VXs out at times to do little projects.
i don’t think any of you are real, i think slap was invented by my mom to make me think people want to talk to me

Let us know how you like that HDR-CX700 and/or post some test clips! I have been on the same wave as you, looking into those early 60p consumer camcorders. I went with the Panasonic HDC-TM900 and I really like it, but I am curious how the early sony ones like the cx700 are.

I really like mine, using the consumer-oriented touchscreen is a little finicky once you start to really want to play with the settings, but it's a great starter cam. It looks okay with the Opteka 37mm in 4:3, but especially good with the FC-E9 in either 16:9 or 4:3. Panasonic did release a follow up, the Hc-x920, which has a better sensor (slightly bigger, and BSI 'backside illuminated') so it is a little better in low light. These small sensor cameras are incredibly light-hungry, so every little bit of improvement of the sensor in low light goes a long way, and I would 100% recommend that x920 instead of the TM900. And I and may even upgrade myself.

Still running an old Sony A7ii. Tokina 10-17mm fisheye without the hood. Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 for long lens (zoom clips work fine if you get good at it).

4:3 HD

Just filmed a full length on it

Some of the long lens clips I used the APSC crop feature when I wanted a more zoomed in look, slight loss in quality but still acceptable imo.

Settings/picture profile really bad on the first line hadn't dialed it in yet.

Would look much better on any newer camera, gh5 or later sony ones for sure. But I think even on more dated cameras you can squeeze out great results.

VX2100/mk1, along with a thrifted hi8 and a variety of super8 and 16mm cameras. excited to future-proof eventually

yo G! So I actually watched your video "mixed signals" and was a big fan, watched it like 3 times. I actually even ended up copying the entire setup pretty much exactly.

TM700, wrap around bracket, century baby death, and sony mic. I looooved the setup but after using it for a while I just couldnt get over the rolling shutter. that shit just bugs me way too much. I wish there was a way around that. Or better yet panasonic could just make a compact 1080 3ccd camcorder that shoots 60fps

I didnt end up liking the cx700 too much it was a little too sharp and HD but its a brilliant camcorder for filming things outside of skating

I've found a setup now that I'm really enjoying. It's a Panasonic Lumix LX5, its a point and shoot photo camera but it has a single CCD and shoots 1280x720 at 30fps, I was able to attach my baby deathlens using an extension tube and have the
coldshoe handle for filming fisheye. It's definitely a fried kind of setup, but I like it that way. it doesn't have a rocker zoom but it can zoom slowly works nicely in a pinch. Gonna continue to use that for a while since its a tiny lightweight setup that can fit in a backpack. And it takes amazing photos too!

Currently using the Panasonic HPX250 with a Century Xtreme but I’ll be selling the entire lens & camera set up in the next few weeks. It’s just getting too heavy for me to use on the regular.

I’ve just bought the Sony FS5 with RAW and high frame rate installed, so it’s essentially upgraded to what the FS5 II comes equipped with. Got a Canon 8-15mm lens with it and a Metabones Ultra II to go along with it.

I compared the Canon lens with the Xtreme and when I zoom in on the Canon to a very similar degree of vignette as the Xtreme, the width is the same, if not slightly wider which is nice.

Here’s a size comparison between the two;

I've never really filmed before, only on a couple of friends setups. But I have a Lumix G85 DSLR (m 4/3). What do I need to get this up to speed to film skating?
