Depends. If you skate to the spot are you going to be too tired by the time you get there? Will it be dark because it was 6 miles away? How many bunny hops did you do on the way?

This reminds me of an intro editorial in al hard copy version of Slap mag, not sure of the issue but it was published after 2000.

It was making the argument that driving to a spot is lame if you don't need to, and that you should skate to spots whenever possible. There was a pic of a dude using a jump ramp to launch over a car, and the caption read something like, "The only acceptable use of a car at a skate spot."

I thought it was kind of a ridiculous claim. Drive if you want to, drive around the world. Or ride your bike. Who cares.

The friends I’ve had who have done this regularly enjoy being warmed up upon arriving to the spot. I haven’t owned a bike since childhood but I see nothing wrong with it. Also, you can die riding in traffic on a bike, that’s pretty hardcore.

I used to see a scooter kid riding one of those hoverboard things to the park. That shit always tripped me out. Bike/board is way less dystopic in comparison. Or maybe I've finally gotten old enough to shake my fist at the sky.

If i would live closer to the skatepark or spots i would bike. Less hassle than driving a car and find parking spots and more economical. The warm up factor also, but i remember biking back home in pain after a good slam when i was younger and the skatepark is like 10 miles away, it wasn’t so nice  :D

Maybe im a kook but i fuckin love pedaling to a spot if the route isnt good for skating. Stretch and warm up in half the time. Plus riding fixed requires a similar awareness to skating

I second the being warmed up when you get there if you pedal there.  It makes it so much better than pushing around for 10-15 minutes trying to get loose.  I'm not yet brave enough to jump rope before a session like I see the curb dudes doing to warm up quicker.  I'm 41 and didn't need as long to warm up when I was younger though.

I’m sorry that person on a bike is better at skating than you.

You should one-up them with a unicycle. Those are boss.

I wouldn't say so.

With the rough ass ground where I am, your legs would be jelly. Bike or car all day

bike to the spot is honestly the best way to get there, especially if your friends bike too and you're hopping between locations

Skateboarding as a mode of transportation is the kookiest thing and it's a ball ache. Bikes all day because you warm you can go door to door and travel with minimal effort.
People that want to skate across the country have a screw loose.

at my most hardcore I was biking to the skatepark, tried skating a couple times but the long trip would kill my skating legs.

Now, I have a vehicle and I'm fat.

I used to always push to nearby spots. I think it made me a better skater (esp. switch push) but it also gave me bad bursitis in both ankles.
Bike seems like a great way to get to the spot, and also to look for spots. You can easily go down the little alleys, or stop to get a closer look. Big up vote for the bike.

Skating as transportation is a good way to get good at skating in a hurry. As a child it was pretty much the only option. Ollieing up curbs, over sewer grates, doing manuals down the road, it all puts your progression into hyper speed. You learn board control. You learn to push in way that doesn’t look like shit. It’s also fun. I feel bad for those who grew up in areas where this was not an option.

Yeah , I get that. As a kid we did that all day going from spot to spot. That is skateboarding not traveling to a destination on a skateboard.  I soon learned that biking got you to spots quicker and you had more time skating at the desired spots.

No. It's now all about Dragons and Super Sliders. You are now required to skate everywhere.

ground too rough, but the 10 minute pedalling warmup is the best part

There was a time when cruiser setups really took off in my City and people would skate up to the Spot with the "street" deck slung on their back. Crucify me but to me there is nothing wacker than the image of a grown man skating down the street with another skateboard on his back. Cycling is unquestionably cooler. Even driving although fuck you if you're doing it to get half a mile down the road you lazy fucker.

Getting a fairdale carrier and an 90's hardtail was a smart move. I used to skate spot to spot but takes too long and wears you out.
