sk8 lingo of yesteryear
« on: May 23, 2024, 10:45:54 PM »
tonight, before going to the gas station to pick up 2 for $6.50 assorted tall cans, I looked down upon myself while wearing tan brown dickies and slip-on white vans and I thought to myself, "wow, I look so steezy," and the word STEEZY stuck out, not only in my mind, but also in my brain... and it reminded me of lingo of a day since passed...

what are some of your fav phrases/ lingo that you used with your krew back in the day that has since played itself out, that you wish to use again?

AIM chat lingo is acceptable and so is angelfire.blogspot.com html as well.

It just occurred to me while thinking about this that I’ve all but eliminated “tight” from my daily vocabulary. I still say “dope” but that shit is timeless and nobody can tell me otherwise. While we’re here I’ll put my boomer hat on and say that “bussin” and “riz” are the worst slang terms to come out of the last 50 years.

it took me years before I figured out what, "cap," meant, and it took a 19 year old that I work with to explain to me what, "rizz," was. when she did, I said, "oh, you mean 'game?'," she looked at me sideways and then talked about how she had schizoaffective disorder.

I wish I was kidding.

I kinda like Cap tbh. Riz is just bad because it’s a simpler version of Charisma, which now that I think about it makes a lot of sense… 🤔 oh well, I like the new kids but Game was light years ahead of riz.

I miss when everything in my German backwater town was "whack" and everything we did was "sick" - using the English terms in Germany, to be clear. Don't miss how we were cluelessly throwing the N word around...

using the words “steezy” and “dank” are punishable offenses

it is funny though, I never hear anyone call anything “tight” anymore. Maybe it just doesn’t stand out.

steeze & steezy are fucking horrible though. swag is bad too.

This was before my time but I guess "righteous" was a thing to say.

Is calling someone a poser still around? I think that's been over for awhile now.

I'm glad we're not describing tricks as "sexy" anymore, that was a weird one imo.

And I doubt many will remember this, but marketing companies tried to stop using "extreme" and were trying to make "skurban" a thing.

I actually think "dope" almost died at one point in the early/mid 00's.

I verbally regress when I’m drunk and a steazy or a boss might come out like “oh that was so boss that blahblah ” “oh steazy this place has blahblah”
I was diving into some CDQ chief keef 2014 rabbit whole and he had a song with line “these bitches love my steaze”
I never said it and I think the term “buttery” lacks tastefulness

Do kids still use “Yo-flip” for a 360 flip but the back leg far apart from front.
People also used to call it Stank leg but I preferred Yo flip.

idk, i think steez/steezy has a place, like some things are actually just steezy and that's the only word for it, like "sick" is too vague and "stylish" is too formal

I still use "sick" on a almost daily basis that's probably not a good thing but I like it.

Steeze/steezy has always sounded super corny to me for some reason.
Can someone explain in Fortnite terms?

I believe there was a transworld article in the early 2000s that went over sk8 lingo and, "smubba," was one of the words they defined. That always stuck out to me, but I've never called a small hubba a smubba.

There was about a year period after Baker Has A Deathwish came out where the skaters from the next town over kept saying, "for Satan," before they tried anything the same way Lizard King did in that part. Man, that was annoying. We were around 18 and 19 years old.

Back in the 90s' in my neck of the woods we called varial flips "shuv-it flips"
I still say 360 flip (or sometimes 3 flip), I've never been a huge fan of tre flip.
When I'm leaving the house to go skate my fiance always says "shred the gnar!" which I think is an old Viva La Bam reference or something.

Do people still say butters/buttery?
Back in the day we'd say "that was butters, yo"
