Are girl/chocolate decks worth getting since they are made in china now??? There is a sick one at the shop now that I am thinking about getting but I don't wanna get the problems that come along with chinese wood soggy pop, chipping, breaking in one week ect ect...

as much as i love girl/choco, i just can't recommend one of their decks. they chip easily, go limp, and usually have pink ply in the middle that leave annoying little marks every time you scrape the tail or ollie.

it's too bad - the best teams but the worst boards.

Stay away... Girl/Choc have sucked for yearzzz. It's outlined it in a couple other threads. Long boat trips across the pacific, twice, and shitty glue. Skatemental's the same way. Worse business practices than Blackbox.

i was gunna buy this devine calloway board cuz it had the nicest shape, but then i thought of how bad my experiences have been in the past with girls and chocolates and i didnt buy it. shit definatly sucks when companies with the best teams and the boards have the best shapes are mad with the shittiest wood.

They weren't the best in 99. If you don't have a clue don't post. If they're the only team you pay attention to you need to broaden your horizons.

I'd say they were pretty good.  PS Stix has been good since he started.  Too flat for me though

I decided to try something completely differnt (for me) this past august. I hadn't bought a board in eleven months, and I checked out this carrol board in boston. it was pretty small, but lasted me until early november when it got ran over...anyway, it cracked on a parking-block lipslip, but the deck itself didnt seem to go stale or anything...just my only experience with anything podium

Just because it comes from China it doesn't mean it's automatically bad.

Who rides the same board longer than a couple of weeks anyway, so it really doesn't matter.

If you want to save money, buy a blank.

I mentioned it in another post but a local dude I know was on flow for Girl and traded in his decks at the shop for Dlxsf wood and Santa Cruz wood because Girl SUCKS so bad. I'm sure the Crailtap lineup is used to their wood by now and just sets up new decks everytime they skate. Or skates other wood. Didn't Koston always skate other trucks while he was on Royal?

Bingo, but I'm glad I made it realistic enough to come into question

but seriously I have never bought a girl deck, I have always been an AWS man myself. So much that I never felt the need to "experiment" with other decks out there. Ever since I saw a girl deck crack right in half like Balsa wood on the first trick,I was scared away for life. This was after 2000, I take it girl used to be a higher quality before the millenium.

Oh and to the person saying the team gets US made boards...that sounds ridiculous. The team doesn't usually skate blanks from what I can see. To make extremely small batches of "personal" skateboards screen printed with graphics you already have printing in your own warehouse.......well it just doesn't sound economical, convienent, efficient... blah blah. I'm sure the team gets their boards alot fresher, and they aren't skating the same board as long as they humanly can...(like I do)

However, I have heard much stranger things

I think the concave on girl boards is the best. They get flimsy but so do all boards. I actually had one that broke in 5 minutes on flatground. Then I had another that lasted for a month and had no chips. If I was a kid buying, I'd probably buy a Girl board or one of those wi boards that are supposed to stay snappy. Just to try it out.

.. Posted this in another thread but it probally belongs here though ...

Its one thing to press in China and over-see manufacturing & testing on-site with real skaters that know deck construction - it's another thing entirely to use Chinese Industrialist Tycoons that could give two shits about Skateboarding or a deck's performance and shovel decks into containers faster then tainted toothpaste.

It's common for brands to get their Pros and top company personnel decks made of higher grade "SELECT" materials then the bulk production stuff.

They also get them express shipped after their finished, so they get the freshies. All the brands do these things, it's commonplace.

Normal turn time on shipping a container to the USA is 12 - 22 days not 9 weeks like some dude said in one of these threads.  They have fast boats and slow boats from SE Asia to the US, slow 22 days, fast 12 - 14.

I agree. Girl has the best team, best boards, and best concave. I rode some girl boards not so long ago and I rode them all for a month each. Only one broke fast but that happens seldomly.
