Watching this X-Games shit got me thinking...Is it unpopular to say I feel absolutely zero affinity with anything that has handlebars?
I feel like companies occasionally try to squish us together and think we should be BFFs since we're all "alternative sports".
Scooters are obvious, but BMXers too. I just...don't give a shit. I don't think it looks good or cool at all, and when they show up to a park I get annoyed and wish they'd leave. The bikes are too fast and silent to integrate into a skate flow, and they frequently (in my experience) don't fully comprehend the path and flow of skaters.

I feel this way about bladers, too. They ride a lot of the same stuff as skaters but the lines don't make sense to me. Every one I've met is either currently or previously using hard drugs, has been incarcerated, or throws tantrums about people blocking an obstacle w/o asking them to move first. Seeing a face tattooed blader throw a kids board for snaking him was a highlight of my old local. Everyone there clowned him so hard he called his girlfriend to pick him up since he's not allowed to drive lol. Real class act. In my experience the bmx riders stick to their own corner of the park where the bowls are and leaves us alone.

Damn, I've actually had really good experiences with bladers in the past few years. They're typically very rare, humble, and always have wax they're willing to share. I still don't think it's very stylish, but at least they seem to acclimate to the skate flow and I'll win a collision if they don't.

I'm open to giving them a chance but haven't been proven wrong yet. Just moved to a new area and there seems to be a large community of bladers and roller skaters here according to social media. Haven't seen any roller skate girls in a while. I miss them.

Really can't accept Rollerblades at the park, but I'd still rank them as  more tolerable than Surfskaters. Surfskaters are insufferable.

My unpopular opinion: backside flips > frontside flips.
[close]

Come on man, this is far from unpopular. In fact, a backside flip is arguably the best looking trick ever...

as someone who can only backside flip, i approve this message.

big fan of when someone does it like louie in bag of suck

YES!!
This is what I picture when I think of a backside flip.
Perfect execution.
The technique where the board goes almost vertical or the fact that it’s off the curb “the wrong way”? Both are great!

Day late but after that Louie clip, I guess I'm ditching my FS flip efforts and going for the BS flip supremacy....

The style makes me think of Kirchart's BS flip out of the back tail

What's the verdict on FSA vs BSA?

Personally think a FSA gets me a little more fired up, bit more of a power move but a good backside air is a work of art

If I roll up and the quad girls are there, I'm stoked.
They're super positive and fun to skate with, and they're fuckin buck.
You couldn't pay me enough to drop in on a 6ft quarter pipe on quad skates, I'd need an ambulance and EMTs on standby.
They always have a big bluetooth speaker blasting some kind of alt-metal band I've never heard but that doesn't bother me.

I back the bladers around here. There seems to only be a small handful of them truly dedicated to it around here, but they're really cool and some have even contributed more to our DIYs than a lot of skateboarders.

Rollerbladers are now our allies. A rare sight and the breeding population is too small to be a threat anymore. And they are not scooterers. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Quoting myself from earlier in this thread, personal NBD. First try too.

Blader acceptance appears less unpopular than expected. Roller skate chicks are straight up Gs.

I agree that rollerskater girls are cool and I have no issue with them, but I'll throw out the unpopular opinion about them.

I see some of them doing grinds on lower boxes where they put one skate up on the ledge and their other leg is still on the ground, then they lift up the other skate into the grind never having jumped into it. Maybe it's a way to learn, but the ones who do it easily enough AND for an entire session don't get a pass that's illegal. Jump into it.

Half of me is envious I couldn't have used this cheat to learn, but the other half is glad I didn't have the opportunity to shame myself this way.

Like a quad equivalent to a willy grind but worse. Definitely checks out as illegal

This has already been used for Jamie Foy, Daan Van Der Linden, Doobie, and David Gravette. I think it only seems genuine for Gravette.
