mini ramp inquiries
« on: July 01, 2007, 07:39:56 AM »
so i've got all the shit necessary to build a 3-4 foot high mini in my backyard.  for a three footer, i'm looking at maybe 5-6 feet of tranny on either side and possibly an 8 foot length for the flatbottom.  i'm curious as to whether this will make the ramp too fast/too slow/etc., so if you've built a ramp before, feel free to chime in with your input. thanks, chaps.

6' trannys for 4' definitley works. you should go for 8' for a 4' mini. and 6' for a 3'

ive got 8 feet of flat bottom on my 4' and it works just fine.

Wow. That looks awful.
One of my favorite lines is the one of spiked meth drnewton does off of lou pearlmans viarga and toddler-blood induced erection that finally puts that bitch 6 feet deep.

well the ramp will be mighty quick and challenging but i wouldnt expect to be learning crazy lip tricks.
my ramp is 12 feet wide, 3 feet high with 7 foot trannies and 8 feet of flat.
i wish i had done 6 1/2 to make it just slightly faster.
if ii were you  would add a little more flat to offset the quick tranny.
it's gonna be hard enough as it is to set up for tricks with the quck tranny let alone with less flat.
just my 2 cents.
dont be too bummed when you go to drop in and it feels insanely fast.
spend alot of time makiing sure your flat and tranny are flush with no bump AT ALL.

take your time with the details.

when you're connecting the tranny to the flat take some time to make sure it is level, get a level and straight edge and do it right.
that usually is the spot for a kink.
sorry  don't have ultra specific directions.
it is one of the most important details when building a ramp.

the guy who used to help build/design slam's park layouts built my friends. i dont have measurements, but its probably 4 feet high with 6 feet transitions and maybe 6 feet of flat, i wish it was a bit mellower and more flat to learn things on but no one else agrees.
we toked a marley and i split back to the park, minding my own busineess when a rollerblader mean mugs..i let it go.

If I were you I would just tear it apart, sell the trannys to the X-Games, and try to salvage the flatbottom by turning it into a manual pad.

finished it earlier today.  it's definitely tight and fast, but i'm super happy with how it turned out.  thanks for all the advice and/or hate, it is appreciated.

I like tight transitions as long as they're not so tight that I lose speed because of scraping the nose or tail... they're good because you don't have to work to hard to pop airs on, you can just "suggest" and ollie and you'll be up there, even on a short ramp. Good shit man, props on having a backyard spot!

same. you really have to be on your game to properly skate a tight transitioned ramp
