Visiting Norway
« on: June 22, 2007, 12:39:10 PM »
I'm going to Norway in august and I don't know too much about this country. I was thinking of taking my board but I'm not sure if it is woth it.
So if you have some good links in English concerning spots, know some good stuff to skate, good places to visit, let me know.
Anyone lives out there ?

PS: I'll be there for 2 weeks visiting the south, and will probably spend some time in Sweden too.

You should bring your board if you`re staying in Oslo, the city has a lot of spots and busts are rare. If you want a pointer as to what kind of spots are around, check out this part. Most of it is filmed in Oslo.

i spent a month in Oslo a couple of years ago....it's definitely worth bringing your board....go to the Town Hall by the harbor to meet up with other skaters, or just skate around the city...there are a ton of good spots

Ok thanks, I don't know if I'll take my board yet, it'll depend on how long we stay in Oslo and other cities.

I'm bringing back this topic because I'm leaving in a few days.
Is there a good skatepark in Oslo ?

No. However, if you take the bus out to bekkestua (near the international school), there is a brand new concrete park that´s pretty fun. If you´re looking for some transition, there is a bowl at Jordal and a ramp at Marienlyst. Both pretty decent. There is supposed to come a new concrete clover-shaped bowl near the city center, but i doubt that it will be finished any time soon.

Yeah, life seems to be pretty expensive over there, but we're going there for nature(like anyone visiting norway I guess) so we'll try to keep the expenses to a minimum (sleeping in bungalows, no restaurants everyday,...).

Thanks you guys for the help.

my wife and I have visited each of those countries....each one of them is incredible, but if I had to rank them it would go

1. Norway (Oslo & Bergen)
2. Denmark (Copenhagen)
3. Finland (Helsinki....and Tallin in Estonia)
4. Iceland (reykjavik)
5. Sweden (Stockholm)

hardly art, hardly starving

Yeah I really like northern countries, I went to Iceland 2 summers ago and it was amazing. I live in the south of France so it is especially nice to go there when it's 35°c here.
Another thing, do you know if it's easy to eat vegetarian in Norway ?

Hmmm. It depends. If you are in Oslo it shouldn't be too difficult, but the further away from the cities you come, the more difficult it's gonna get.
