Classical Music
« on: August 28, 2007, 11:37:26 PM »
I wondered if anyone here listened to classical music... I really enjoy Mendelssohn, Tschaikowsky etc. Also some opera, but not many. The song that always gets me is The Flower Duett from the opera Lakmé by Léo Delibes...I always thought a videopart to classical music would be cool...
Anyone else enjoy some classical music?

Sibelius is probably my favorite.  I also enjoy Mahler, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Wagner, and Rossini.

Yes. I am necroing the shit out of this thread.

Been listening to nothing but Ravel's orchestral works. Okay, that's a lie because I'm listening to Horowitz play Rachmaninoff's 3rd right now. While I don't play piano, I have it on my bucket list to punch some keys on a Steinway concert grand before I die.

so much, chopins nocturnes, anything debussy and loads of other piano based stuff, holst and stravinsky are favourites as well. nils frahm is a rad modern pianist/composer, seeing him tuesday night. what do you guys think of this incidentally? thought i'd have a go at writing my own take on that sort of thing a while back, quite proud of it i guess...

Willem Dafoe used it in his part for the Platoon video. it was epic.
but seriously, that song is beautiful.

phil loved classical, and while he skated to it posthumously i don't think this would have been his first song choice...

bach, beethoven, mozart for sure, plus dig ravel, stravinsky, bartok, rachmaninoff, some of the weirdos.

I actually played double bass in the orchestra throughout high school so I got to experience a lot of classical music first hand. One of my favorite pieces was from Bartok, but I can't remember the name of the concerto or find it on youtube.

Sibelius and Chopin are my favourites.  Especially Chopin's Etudes.  But I will pretty much listen to any of it.  Thrift stores are so good for buying mass quantities of classical music for next to nothing.

Since you all enjoy Chopin, this thread has to have Krystian Zimmermann it. Probably one of the best interprets of Chopin:

I have been an admirer of classical music since I was a kid. I have many favorites, but these stand out the most
Moonlight Sonata
pachelbel's Canon in D--Soothing music(the best version)
Bach, Toccata and Fugue in D minor, organ
Bach - Air on a G String

Got done with Mahler's first symphony.

Am listening to Tchaikovsky's 5th right now, third movement (the waltz) w/Antoni Wit conducting. I've always been rather indifferent to Tchaikovsky.

It sounds nice though.
