I find it fascinating that when Igor Stravinsky premiered his Rite of Spring in 1913 it caused a riot in the theater. The music began cool and calm and erupted into a terrifying chorus of horns, drums, strings. The audience had never heard such sounds and went completely ape shit. There are rumors that during the chaos Stravinsky hid behind stage and wept. After that night people thought he was a monster. He did a second premier around a week later and people lined the streets eager to find out what caused such ruckus. They had heard stories of how this wild new music drove normal people into madmen and prepared accordingly. There was no riot at the second preimer of Rite of Spring. Rumors say that he was even carried out of the theater by and adoring crowd.

This song isn't exactly my 'cup of tea' but I'm blown away by the story behind it.
Here's some of the more raucous parts of it

To be honest, I'm not much of a fan of classical music itself but I'm really into
the stories behind the music. Particularly Beethoven and his hearing loss.
It's boggles my mind how he composed so many great songs while being totally deaf.
Here's my favorite Beethoven song (Moonlight Sonata) paired with one of my favorite skateboarders (Pat Brennan).
May they both rest in peace

George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and An American In Paris

Prokfiev's three oranges is probably my favorite at the moment.

I was in an orchestral band in high school, but I was definitely being a “cool” person at the time and never really listened or cared about it. I recently started listening to some “western art music”(you know, what the kids are calling it) and have been enjoying it. Sitting through full pieces still sucks but I have enjoyed listening to sections over and over again.

I’ve really found myself enjoying Satie recently and listening to Gnossienne 1 (lent) quite a bit.

(I really like Anne Queffélec’s playing of it specifically)

I’ve been liking JSB recently too. I like the 2 bourees in his 3rd cello suite.

(I like Mstislav Rostropovich’s playing)
I like contrapunctus 9 from the art of fugue too.

(I like it with just the piano better, but wasn’t able to find one I liked on YouTube)

I always enjoyed Holst’s the planets, they’re like movie music for your mind. I’d have to say I’m pretty basic when it comes to my taste in them;(I like the Berlin philharmonic’s recordings)
I like Mars
