Been trying to knock out as many flat ground tricks as I can in my free time, nollie and switch hard flips are killing me.

fs 180 (or alley oop) to switch fs crook on a steep bank. It's a bit too much/circusy, and rather do fakie fs crooks or just alley-oop fakie 5.0 but it was fun to try

Front blunt on a quarter. Got it before I turned 44, so that was nice.
[close]

I recently got blunt to fakies on quarters. For the past month, I've been trying them on every higher and steeper quarter pipe I can find to get them on lock. I'm thinking of trying the front blunt or nose blunt as my next tricks. I never thought I would say this but I'm getting sick of blunts.

I mostly skate transition and have a handful of blunt variations (including blunt to pivot to fakie) but I am still terrified of blunt fakies. I kinda wish I had some of those people with the big mats that help people train for the loop for me to full commit to a blunt fakie.

I did it first on a tiny 1 foot tall quarter pipe to commit. It still felt really weird and freaky at first, and it probably took me like 40 tries before I finally committed to one without taking off my back foot. Once you can get yourself to fully commit, it's money. Now I got them on lock on mellow chest high quarter pipes. It is a very satisfying trick and landing it for the first time felt like I reached some sort of pinnacle in skating. It felt like all my hours spent skating and trying to get better really paid off. I'm still pretty stoked on it.

I did the same. First on very small tranny and gradually moved up. Still can’t get myself to do it the usual way ie small ollie and manual out, I have to ollie straight into the tranny. I have absolutely no consistency with it either. This trick sucks monkey dick. I hate it. Bs blunt is easy tho.

yeah man all of these look sick when done right, big ups. i don't get the nollie tailslide/lip hate. it might be easier, but can still look just as good when done proper.
[close]
exactly! I'm a fan of both nollie front/ back tails too

I don't get the hate, not everyone has a super deep pocket of tricks, when you are at a spot, just throw shit out, it's about doing/landing the trick.

Last trick for me was a F/S half-cab heel; I'm super close to full cab now, but I can tell they are ugly AF.

just learned fakie ollie to switch back crooks, as well as re-learned fakie flip to front tailslide, haven't done that one in a year or so. The goal is to learn fakie flip crooks next.

Also learned back 180 to switch front crooks a couple of days ago. I get smoked way less on this one compared to fs 180 to switch back crooks which is a relief considering how many times i've gone into front lip and eaten shit trying a front 1 switch crooks

Anyone got tips for a Nollie?

Remember to poke it out in front of you a bit and actually jump. I got slappy crook shuvs the other day. Kind of a silly trick, but the feel cool.

When you pop, you push the board in front of you a tiny bit so when you level it out it stays under you.

True true.
I’m not good, near that in mind:

Learned em before noses were substantial by bonking them off of cracks (still fave trick) or speed bumps. That practice gives you the motion of poking them out in front of you. My nollie feels much safer, compact, and attached than an Ollie these days, which is sad

Yesterday I learned that I couldn't do a frontside noseslide cos nobody was around and I keep falling on my face recently.
Now, we used to say we put on our tights to put on the world. So I don't think it tarnishes the image at all.

I learned fs noseslide and I love the feeling.
I only got them to fakie for the moment, but I'm going to try the to regular and shuvit out.

It's a really fun trick. To regular has always been the easiest to me as opposed to doing them to fakie, the difference is just look over your front shoulder instead of down on your feet I guess. Switch frontside noseslides are also a very underrated fun trick most people seem to have ditched for some reason (that or I don't watch the right stuff).

Also are nollie frontside noseslides ten times easier and less scary than their backside counterpart to anyone else? People always give me that look when I mention that, but that's how they've always felt to me. Backside I feel like I'm just going to miss the top and destroy my ankle whenever the ledge is too high (I need to learn to trust that nollie motion more).

yeah but you officially become old when you do them.

i had a good sesh today at the local foot high ledge. unlocked a few switch grinds; 5-0, front tail and a nosegrind pop out. super stoked on the last one especially.
