Sketchy spot vs. Smooth and perfect
« on: September 20, 2007, 04:01:51 PM »
i prefer something that you have to kind of work with what you have if the ground is shitty and theres always traffic or people in the way it just makes the trick so much better for me

whats your takeeeeeeeee.

I'll skate anything.

But theres something about the rough ground and the clacking of wheels while pushing that makes it just that much better.

while challenging spots can drive people nuts, i do get more satisfaction of skating some janky spot over something super smooth.

perfect spots kind of sketch me out.  they give me too much time to think.  I need some imperfection to focus on so I don't over think the trick I'm trying to do.  I think growing up skating in New Orleans also might have something to do with it...

Smooth is a lot more fun to me. You have too much trouble keeping your speed on rough sketchy ground.

growing up skating sketchy spots might have alot to do with it, but I get annoyed when a great spot gets eastfocused and is a pain in the ass. skating through traffic, fun. trying tricks at a spot while having to watch for traffic, not so much.

some smooth spots are crazy, southbank looks real smooth and I would like to skate that. kids might always complain about how everyspot is imperfect however, there is always some smooth ass concrete or asfault in every town

I hate spots that have cracks in the concrete every 6 inches.  I cant ever concentrate on the trick because of the CLACKCLACKCLACKCLACK

i'll take some fucked up spot anyday.  always different, usually always empty.  smooth spots are always blown out, and all the dudes there wear headphones during the sesh.

I sure hope nobody wakes up and thinks "man, I'd really like to skate a rough parking lot with a lot of rocks everywhere today". I'd way rather find a smooth and perfect spot to skate, but if it comes down to it, its just whichever spot is more fun.

Smooth and perfect. How can you argue with perfect? Sketchy has cool points, but its by no means more fun to session.
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”

this thread is regular, there is no one on earth who would give up a smooth spot for a shitty one. its in our DNA to find the smoothest spot on earth.

Im sure all you Slap fag's are gonna say "Dude, i'd take the rough spot because it's so cool and creative. Like something Bobby Puleo would skate." Yeah their fun, but I'd take a smooth spot with a ledge over anything, anyday. I wish Eggs was in my backyard.

smooth and perfect spots are the best cause you don't need to worry about other shit... for me, it's easier to focus on my tricks.

i admit sketchy spots are fun but not too great when you're picking pebbles out of your arms.

in WA the ground is so weathered, we really have no choice. Plus for some reason the city only builds stuff in either blacktop, which gets gummy in the summer, or that shitty swept white-top shit that's the same texture as a cheese grater. And there's gnarly gummy rubber filled cracks every 6 feet to compensate for the concretes tendency to contract and expand with the seasons so the shit doesn't crack.

I have a really hard time believing that most of you would like to skate something fucked up rather than something perfect. There's a different between shitty ground and tons of traffic that makes you only able to get 1 try every 10 minutes and spots that are just hard to skate. I'd much rather ride on smooth ground than a bucha rocks. That being said, it's really cool to skate something weird that most people wouldn't think of, but that doesn't mean it's gotta be all fucked up and aggrevating to skate.

i'd take a smooth one over a sketchy one for sure but on film the sketchy ones always look better.
