how long do you burn through wheels?
« on: November 08, 2007, 05:30:48 AM »
alright, I've been skating these rictas I bought used for close to two years now, and one of em finally flatspotted. I've decided its time to finally grab some new ones after skating my friend's setup..but could someone clear something up for me? the hardness/softeness factor would affect me in what way? I skate ramps mostly but when I hit the streets the spots are anything but smooth.

Some Bones, either STF 53mm, or some Bones SPF 54mm, they should be good for ramps and the streets, and they're hard to flatspot.

No shit, two years is forever... I might go two months on a set before they sound like a flatspot machine gun.

The hardness of the wheels on ramp will pretty much dictate how much you can slide around versus how much grip you have while carving... for street, the harder the wheel usually means the more you can feel every little crack and crevice, but again, you can slide them around a lot easier.

For flatspot avoidance, I like Autobahn and Powell STFs.

bones stf all the way.

ihave only flat spotted them once. and that was when i was backside 180 up something and accidentilly back noseblunted the ground, no shit though, the flat spot went away. they could last you for ever. i like to pick up a new set every three months or so though doesnt always happen, but i would like too.

Get Fast Life's, there as legit as it gets, been riding the shit out of em since the day they dropped and im not lookin' back, never flatspotted a set and thats usually my only gripe with skateboarding is flatspotting a set of wheels in 15 minutes, fuckin doo doo brown. I used to set a set of wheels up everytime i set a deck up, now i can go every two, try em' there legit, and they just made a 56mm too!

I skate hills so my shits flatspot right away usually. I bought a set of 57 mm spitfires a month ago, Skated some hills the first day, went to a park on day 2, hoping for that new wheels on skatepark ground glide, and it felt like I was skating on bricks. Luckily, I can usually work those out pretty quick too. One bad powerslide= flatspots, a couple good powerslides= flatspots gone. I usually get new wheels when my 57's look like fat little chode 48's. I should rotate my wheels, but I don't, so my back right wheel is a few mm smaller than the rest. Its usually a month or 2. I would every week if I could afford it.

Sounds like you need soft wheels. They'll give you grip at the parks, and the rough ground will be more forgiving. Sliding on your wheels will be a little more difficult though, so be careful.

I always get spitfires, because they sell 'em a bit cheaper at the deluxe store. I hear the powell wheel formulas are pretty good too though.
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”
I quit skating for a time due to piling out

Funny u should mention it, I got new wheels just last month (55mm satoris) and when I was taking off my old ones (hubba) I was kinda shocked at how small they looked… when I got them they were 56s. so I got the measuring tape and found that in the five months or so I’d been skating them they shrunk down to 45mm. needless to say the 55s were an adjustment after that. I’m lazy about changing my wheels though.

I've had 3 sets of Ricta's, all of them flatspotted after a week or so.
I need to try those Bones STF's you're all talking about.

i can only ride big soft wheels now,  kind of a bummer not to be able to powerslide but whatever........spitfire has some 57/95a wheels in that DLX catalogue thing but I have no idea where to get them.......those would be perfect..........i have sixty millimeter bones pool wheels but they are probably like fifty seven by now......I rotate them so they stay even.......i miss being able to boardslide ledges.........flatspots bug me so much and i just don't have the money or patience to set up new wheels every two or three days.......so im stuck with the big soft ones
