i don't really get this confusion about how the ledge is stable or skateable, maybe it was some sarcasm i couldn't quite pick up on.

They're just cinder blocks stacked on top of each other by the looks of it.

There was a really good granite/marble ledge spot that some dudes in seattle made under a bridge.  Haters took a jackhammer to it.

That thing was so fun/perfect

It was. And there were two of them so you could do lines.

Austin is notorious for spots like these. we have had six foundations that have had similar ledges in the last 6 years. There is another one in the works as well. the ledge in my avatar is a DIY ledge at one of our ditches that got a face lift in the last year. we also poured a 7 foot vert wall with 2.5 feet of vert in the last year at the same spot. One of the Canadian Element riders back smithed it in a recent podcast. DIY spots are the better than most skateparks in my opinion. If they get torn down, find a new place to do it all over again.

Is there a good ledge spot that's skateable right now? one in the works i could help with? or is that all too secret?  I moved here a year ago and haven't really met anyone or searched out decent spots.  I usually just go be fat and lazy at house park.

gotcha. nope, theyre all cemented together. its shockingly sturdy considering nobody actually knew what they were doing, just kinda went for it and it turned out to be really fun

The art teacher at my school has a mold for pouring concrete benches. Then he has his kids do mosaics on them. When they're done he's gonna pour me one with angle iron on the front edge--I'm stoked. There's a basketball court across the street from my house where I'll put it. There's a pretty hidden spot where at least the bench won't seen from the road. And I'm keeping tight raps on that shit.

nice, its good to see people make spots out of empty wasted space.....

some guys made a ledge down a bank under one of the subway tracks in my country....  made from concrete and steel drain covers...  it was fun while it lasted....

I bondoed a parking block to the top of this bank at this old skatepark from the 70's that no one skates much cause there aren't many obstacles and the ground sucks (I'm not talking about Derby). The block was pretty fun but the I only got to skate it once before the city removed it.
let me just name a few of the hammers in this video...

a couple friends of mine quick creted a wall that seperated 2 parking lots at a food mart place.  definatly one of the most fun spots around here.  and big thanks to everyone thats sacrificed a car bumper to make a pole jam.  ;D

I want to make a ledge with a bank up to it similar to the ones in NYC or Philly, but I don't understand how you get the water to the spot to do the mixing, because my buddy said you need a shitload of water. Anyone know how much water per bag of concrete you need or how you get the water to the spot?
usually about a 1:1 ratio. get the water to the spot can be pretty easily accomlished with some big plastic garbage cans and a pickup. only fill the cans about halfway, though-water is HEAVY. heavier than you think. plus, if you're only building ledges, and you use cinderblocks to build them, you won't need much water or concrete.  skaters for public skateparks have a bunch of plans and shit in their forums on DIY shit...

I'm not sure how they did it exactly but it was built by a few of the Grindline guys. A bunch of the parks they did in the area have the same sort of ledges and they seem to hold up pretty well.

unforunately for you the only rule of the spot is that if you didnt help contribute to making it, youre not allowed to complain about it.

theres a local spot in chino that these guys, who own this local company called backstabber, built this spot. luckily the guy who built it is brothers with the owner of shop down the street for my house (platform4lyfe). so i got to skate it before it got blown out and people started calling it backstabbers. its extremley difficult to skate, if you can remember daewons part from get fam its that spot where he does that blunt stall 360 shuv out on the barrier thing.

me and my friends made a ledge once. it was a waste of my 40 something dollars. the thing about making your own spots is that it takes out the fun of finding shit.

oh really. skate a perfectly built made to  skate ledge, or seeing something on the bus and then finally skating it to see that its rugged as fuck and then attempting to skate that.

you would choose the latter on the account that your favorite part of skating is the smile you beam to your friends immediately when you land a mediocre trick.

How about all of the above?

Sometimes it's nice to have a spot you can go to anytime without harrasment.

And it's rewarding experiencing building shit.

All of which take nothing away from the experience of skating street spots.
