Top 5 jawdroppers
« on: November 20, 2007, 06:44:42 AM »
I'd be surprised if this subject hasn't popped up before. Which 5 tricks amazed you most at the time you first saw them? In no particular order...

1. Mike Carrol's? 360 flip down a 7 set: Hokus Pokus
2. Pat Duffy's ender 50-50: Questionable
3. Geoff Rowley's backside 360 ollie into a bank: Thrasher Cover
4. Jeremy Wray's water tower ollie: 411
5. Ronnie Creager's switch hardflip-lateflip: 411

I know I've missed about 50 tricks, but fuck it.

Ed Templeton - The poster in his first TWS interview, nose grind down a kinked hand rail, blew my mind at the time plus that interview is still one of my all time favorites.
Jeremy Wray - The ollie at the beginning of his Color video part
Jeremy Wray - The tower to tower ollie, that shit is still unreal
TNT - That crazy spine transfer he did at Burnside, when you go there and see that shit in real life it is mind blowing
Zered Basset - His TWS cover, that shit is so sketchy, I think it is one of the best cover photos ever.

These are off the top of my head.

Chris Cole - b/s 270 noseblunt down a rail and the tre flip down Wallenberg.

Geoff Rowley - f/s 50-50 that massive ledge in a Vans ad.

J.T - Leap Of Faith and the drop in to f.s 180 melon off that white ledge at Point Loma High School in Thrill Of It All.

Tom Penny - that line he does at a school with no pushing that ends with a b/s tail down a rail.

Randoms in no order:
Natas: Pickup truck rollbar slide
Gonz: Mega channel ollie back in the 80's on that Y-shaped mini
Hensley: 540 Caballarial with steez (90's?)
Cole: First time I ever saw him spin around a 360 kickflip (the one where he turns 360, not a tre)
Duffy: Everything he did when he first blew up.

There's nothing mentioned in here that isn't amazing.  However, I'll add...

Natas' fire hydrant spin in that fucking Santa Cruz video
Jason Lee's 360 flip
Tommy Guerrero's whole part in "Future Primitive"
Mike Vallely's manual at the end of his "Rubbish Heap" part
Animal Chin ramp
and even though it's kinda "X-treme" and all, Danny Way's first Mega Ramp shit in "the DC video"

EDIT: Daewon's semi-trailer to semi-trailer shit in "Round 3"

Gonz: Mega channel ollie back in the 80's on that Y-shaped mini
I was actually there when he made that.  Shit was ridiculous.  Danny Way also pulled a legit Mctwist on that mini, too (during practice).
Natas' fire hydrant spin in that fucking Santa Cruz video
That might be the one that broke the most VCRs with the rewinding.

^^^^ The copy of that video that the shop used to rent (yes, children, we used to have to rent skate videos) had a huge spot on that section where you could tel people would just sit there and rewind it over and over.  Kinda like that Phoebe Cates scene in "Fast Times"

Pj's wonderful part

Agreed, Definitely changed my idea of what people could do at the time.
Menikmati was my first real skate video, and blew my mind. Rick McCranks 100mph nollie hardflip over a handrail in a line, Koston's perfect kickflip back tail on a handrail. Plus Koston doing dork tricks in the bonus features made me realize just how good he was.
