CONFESSION Thread: ever focused a brand new board?
« on: November 20, 2007, 12:23:28 PM »
Who has ever focused a new or at least still fully skateable board?

I did once. I had a brand new Scott Johnston 'catlike dexterity' model from Think - which had really good graphics and a good shape - but was unfortunately almost two inches narrower than my last board. In the first session I pretty much lost all my flip tricks, so I thought I'd do some basics first. So when I procedeed to do a backside 180 off a curb, my backfoot slid off the tail, my front foot whipped up the board really hard, it hit me in the face which made my chin bleed really nice. Out of pure frustration I kicked in the middle of the board really hard.

And then I had two Scott Johnston boards. And I still feel guilty. Because basically I believe good boards shouldn't be kicked into pieces. So confess.

i'm sure everyone has done it if you've skated for more than 10 years.  sometimes it just feels good.  but yeah inevitably you end up feeling like a kook, especially if done in front of others.

That's right. Blocked that out of my mind I guess. And it wasn't 5 inch wide, but very narrow, felt like a freestyle board.

It was like 7.2 or something stupid. My Ventures were hanging over like crazy. But I was a little kid so it didn't matter.

a few years ago after mosiac came out they made they mosaic board series. i bought the janoski board out of the sale bin and it was absolutly the worst board ive ever had. it was the dead of winter and i live in new england and i skated it one day and it sucked and about a week later i skated it for the 2nd time and it ended up focused into a million pieces. worst board of my life and i didnt feel like a kook after either cuz it fucking sucked so bad

Probably about 100. I never cared what anybody thought and only cared caused there'd be a few heads at the spot that needed boards.

Damn, in my 4 years of skating i've never focused a board new or thrashed, I always thought it was kind of pointless and a waste of money.

the question is, who focussed the most in one day? I did like 3 one day. I would have focussed the fourth  but didn't want to set up another one.

Tae Tae might have the record.

way too many......I'm probably up in the 60 to 70 ish  range.....I did however eventually start cooling off on focusing boards and would usually bring a cordless drill with so I could take a board apart and give to someone in need of a good set-up......

*On a side note.....I am also guilty of focusing other peoples' boards as well.....damn,now that I think about it....I was kind of a prick I guess.

We all have our days.  My last focused board was a mini-logo that ruined a perfect morning.  I was so pissed that I stomped it hard enough to bruise both heels.  Out for 2 weeks from skating.

I've never focused a skateable board, just boards that either had deep cracks or a snapped tail and/or nose. It was never out of anger or 'riod rage or anything though.

reasons that have caused me to focus a board:

temperature, cracks, rocks, loose trucks, tight trucks, old shoes, new shoes, wind, 360 flips, etc.

luckily it hardly ever happens anymore, i have focused maybe 2-3 boards in the past few years. i usually just take a break if im getting pissed/frustrated.

i've definitely focused a board that was only skated for 1 or 2 sessions...whoops?

i'm sure everyone has done it if you've skated for more than 10 years.  sometimes it just feels good.  but yeah inevitably you end up feeling like a kook, especially if done in front of others.

Why because after 10 years and you still suck, its finally time to start blaming the board?
