yeah i'll have a car. honestly everyone seems to be bummed on LA, mainly because (supposedly) you get kicked out of every spot and getting around from spot to spot is a nightmare. i was thinking of going to SF instead, what do you guys think?

dont go to LA. its a mess, driving is almost pointless if you can figure out buses and shit with in a short time do that. or get a guide. because youll just end up at ghetto park thinking, "I came here for this?"

yeah I'd go to sf, the spots here are good and plenty, but you really have to know where youre going, or know someone who does.  sf is a better set up for sure

wow this is weird, i was just about to post a topic like this. I'm heading to L.A. in a week to visit my cousin. It's been a while since I've been there and I was wondering if there's any new spots or anything because I don't feel like going to the same ol' L.A. High, Hollywood High, Santa Monica Courthouse, Venice Beach, etc...PLEASE give me some suggestions so I don't have to start another topic or anything. Gracias...

hee hee, new spots.

if you are going to come to la just try to have fun skating the city, dont take it so seriously. the only way to have as much possible having fun is just cruising and taking 15 minute random spot stops.

i figured i might as well change the topic to San Francisco since that's where i think i'll be going instead.

so now, what are some good sf spots? (besides 3rd and Army, Pier 7 and Mission 3 up 3 down)

or where's a good place to stay with a close proximity to some good spots?

cant skate the courthouse anymore..go skate downtown

Well, everything's knobbed but you can still hit manuals across the stage and skate the stairs and stuff. I had a blast skating there a couple months ago.

My favorite LA area spot is still 7th St School. Still going strong, still tons of fun.

In SF I still like skating Wallenberg's upper yard - the one with the brick ledges and the drinking fountain ollie that's all over Goldfish (and other early 90s vids). No one skates that part anymore for some reason, but it's more fun that a damn jersey barrier, IMO.:)

Actually, I've been thinking about travelling out to the U.S again. Would you say that time spent in S.F would be better than L.A? It just seems that from everything I've read, in L.A. all the classic spots have been "knobbed" or you just get kicked out straight away. I can drive, but S.F sounds like more fun than just driving everywhere, waiting in heavy traffic, only to be prevented from skating after 5 minutes.

I would be grateful for your thoughts.....

The reason skaters have a shitty time in LA is because they generally have a bunch of "spots" they want to hit that they've seen in videos, and they're all like an hour apart and they are all total busts or knobbed by now, and so they spend the whole time sitting in traffic and getting kicked out.

There are so many great ways to skate LA. You can just park somewhere on Wilshire or Santa Monica or Hollywood Blvd or downtown LA and just get out of the car and skate for miles and miles. Along the way you'll find all sorts of spots. Then grab a bus or a cab back to your car and it's all good.

Oh, also: if you want to hit some of the classic spots, for goddsake go on a weekend. I don't know what people are thinking going to like, the Wilshire rail in the middle of a work day and bitching that they get booted in 5 minutes.:)

Skate around Hollywood. The Blvd. is all smooth marble with buttery curb cuts galore. Plus there is lots of good people watching.
I also really like skating in Venice. The pits were fun but the new "park" is a great little spot. I like to park down there, skate that, then skate up the beach to the sand gaps. Its about a half mile or so but the ground is smooth and there are lots of pretty women to look at and lots of round curbs to slash. There are skinny manual pads too, that have a little gap (about 12") between them. Its a good way to spend an afternoon.
The Culver City park and the Glendale parks are good.
LA High didn't use to be a bust but I went there recently and fought the crowds long enough to get the boot. Sick spot though.
Griffith Parks got some spots. Bronson Canyon and the ditch thing that everyone has been skating recently.

go to 3rd and Army the whole time, its the only spot you'll need.

Are you staying at the Green Tortoise Hostel?
