Used to get these for under $60 many years ago before they got popular again lasted forever.  The leather though was different almost like material.

Skated a pair of og dunks when they used to sell them at zumiez. I wonder if that was a mistake on their behalf because SB's were on the market they just didn't sell them. I don't know.

Pull up killing it in some team jordans while the kids at the skatepark are struggling in some exclusive busenitz colorways.

Adidas Shelltoes and Phantoms. In the 90s, a lot of guys rocked Pumas, AF1s, Sambas, Stan Smiths, etc. A few guys I knew even wore Nike and Adidas cross-trainers with a bunch of foam cushioning in the soles.

Killer thread. I hate skate shoes, have always worn shelltoes. They fit my feet perfect. Those Fila f-13s are great too.
I recently came across some Nike Air Trainer 1s in a little shoe shop, bought them for $30. Those are my next skate shoes for sure.

i was playing a lot of basketball when i was 12-15 years old, until everyone in the team was at least one head bigger than me. anyway, i remember skating a pair of and1s made out of synthetic that skated pretty good. a lot of skateshoes were looking like basketball shoes back then anyway (es koston2, ...3)so i was not thinking it could be wrong.

skated an old pair of stan smiths to pieces when i was too broke to get real skateshoes. money problems were probably the main reasons for me when i picked a non skateshoe for skating. i skated some fila suede sneakers(decent), chuck taylors(not so pleasant for your feet imo), dr js(great and my favorite shape for a skate shoe), some dunks that i also got for really cheap(okay) and some indoor-soccer shoes i once bought for sports class. those were probably the best, i don't remember the brand, but they were probably adidas.

Skated a pair of the red gazelle skates that busnitz promoted when addidas first became a skate brand, couldn't find another pair after so I skated two pairs of gazelle 2 "training shoes."  I imagine they skated almost exactly how the addidas "skate" model skates.

Grip wore out fast but the boardfeel and original grip was seriously perfect for skating.

Funny thing is people used to hate on me for wearing adidas to skate. Then they came out with a skate line and all of a sudden they are cool.

really loved the adidas proshells. lasted literally forever.

The Campus with the cupsole were also nice and of course Puma Suedes.

Honorable mention: indoor football shoes. Pretty much liked them when it was pretty hard to find slim skateshoes in the early 2000's.

Always been a fan of skating in non skate shoes for whatever reason, my favourite have been these. Probably the best shoe i've ever skated in (this exact colourway). Think the material is nubuk and the sides are breathable but didnt just tear apart. Called the daily SE or something, found them in sports direct for ?20.

Saw a typical tennis dad at the skatepark the other day wearing these and to my suprise he ripped it up, was doing smooth k grinds

Probably the weirdest shoes I ever skated in were a pair of brogues. Came home from school one day and was locked out with no key so got a session on outside my house and straight fucked them up

I skate converse on and off for the fact that they fuck up the soles of your feet and dont last long. But damn they are good shoes to skate in, extremely cheap too. I want someone to skate in a pair of Superga's if anyones heard of them. There an italian sneaker company but would be so good to skate in, very grippy. They seem to make only smaller sizes... May actually be a womens shoe, fuck it.
Here:

There is 1000s of shoes out there that are not meant for skateboarding but probably skate 100x better than any shoe stamped with the class of
"Skateboard shoe" on it. Jordan's of course would be amazing, depending on which one but if i don't recall the 1 was the most popular shoe back in the day.

Im wearing a pair of sambas right now and i cant skate them. maybe just crusing around, ollieing curbs, maybe some no complys, but anything else i think they suck. they're really small shoes and the soles are really hard and dont grip as well as you would think. but i got them for free from a friend without the intent of skating in them.

I bought a pair of adidas campus' from marshals once for like $20 and those were great. same thing as the skate campus, but a cupsole. and less than half the price, which is great when youre broke.
