So I'm a big fan of the Pro Classic Vans, but this talk of the OG Half-Cabs being better than the Half-Cab Pros seems to be an almost universal take. Why is that?

Half Cab Pros have a bad shape and fit weird. Disproportionate. Not tall enough through the toebox and mid-foot. Tongue is too small. Panels are too small and cramped. Toebox is too narrow. They look and feel gross. They need to either replace the Half Cab Pro with the Half Cab Pro 92 (the silhouette they used for the Uprise Half Cabs), or redesign it to be shaped more like the classic.

That settles it, my next new pair of pants are going to be brown cords. Will even complete the outfit with an extra long shoelace belt for ultimate nostalgia.

I agree with this. Also, pros feel like wearing a soggy thick leather sock with a brick for a sole to me, so bottom-heavy and weird.. I can't stand em.
OG's however feel so good, like wearing your favorite worn in pants but for your feet - right out of the box. I just put a super thin insole on top of the glued-in one and it feels amazing. All this talk makes me wanna get some OG's again.

Finally got the Vans Ave Pro for a good price (60 euros). Out of the box they feel a little bit tight, but after a couple of days they feel like a fucking glove.

I rip out the og half cab insoles before even wearing the shoe. Wearing the shoe makes it harder to tear out for me but ripping it out fresh usually works out pretty clean. Then I throw in a pop cush or whatever insole you like.

Favorite shoe to skate in of all time. Currently skating a pair. Does anyone else get the ollie tongue syndrome?

Happens to every pair I’ve ever had. Doesn’t effect how the shoe skates at all so I don’t really care too much but I won’t lie in saying that it definitely makes the shoe look a lot less appealing hah.

I also get the ollie tongue syndrome and swap the insole for an Ultracush one.

I definitely prefer the shape of the classic over the Pro.

It doesn't count if the first one is thin and glued in, the extra one on top is just to complete the deal. Stickin to one is like having hot chocolate without the cream.

Glued in insole only:

Double up:

Yeah sure, you can sleep in the single, but I'm going Kevin McCallister in that mothafucka with the doubles. Whipped cream in my hot coco, banana splits, chocolate chip cookies - all that shit.

You gotta ask yourself: what kinda life you tryna live my dude, you wanna settle or you wanna live it up like a fat 1500's king?

I'm trying to not roll my ankle by having my foot where it was designed to be. Doubling up on insoles reduces the stability of a shoe.

Forcing myself to switch to cupsoles and am going to put these into rotation. I got them on eBay for $45 maybe a year or two ago. After years of skating vulcanized shoes it is a trip seeing my feet in these.

Ok

Look dope, the quality looking wool socks are a nice touch. Wool socks....are just so much better.

I skate better in cupsoles, and my feet feel better. I do like switching my footwear up a bit (sounds like you’ve got the rotation), that helps a lot. I’ve been losing weight so I may be able to get away with some half cabs....

Anyone do foot exercises? I lose interest, almost immediately, but bad feet in the family so I should stick with it.

Just regular Goldtoe crew socks, I am a fucking sweat loaf and even in the winter I would die.

I broke my leg and sprained my ankle in Feb 2016, started doing exercises with a theraband and haven't stopped.

I've been skating the Louie Cons and while I love them in general, they're way too thin for my old man feet and now I'm nursing brutal heel bruise.  Does anyone have suggestions on a vulc/thin cup (willing to try anything tbh, just need a lot of board feel) that won't destroy my feet and leave me hobbling?

If you like the slim profile of the LL, Emerica Laced might be a nice thin cup for you. Haven’t had the Vans AVE but sounds like that might be up your alley.

+ 1 to the NB# 440 and Ave Pro, and Romero laced (but that lack of collar bothers me personally).

I'll also add Lakai Atlantic, Proto, and maybe Carrol XLK since Lakais usually have great board feel but aren't the most protective, BUT these are flexible cupsoles with decent protection. The cup soles are more durable and more forgiving on feet than their vulcs.

Globe (I know...) Empire or Eagle SG.
Es Accel Slim
Nike SB Team Classic
Van's KWalks 1 and Gilbert Crockett 2 (cup/vulc hybrid)
Super Champion Fun Zone
