Are FP's really worth it? I've never been able to justify spending 40 quid on some insoles - just seems over the top
I prefer the flatter models. I've also never seen a study that proves arch support is actually necessary/helpful. I've only read studies that show the opposite; that our arches in the foot are made to cushion impact, and taking that away seems like it would only transfer more impact to more vital parts of the body (knees/hips/back). That's just my 14 years talking. As for the insoles, I'd say they're worth the money.
There's a tradeoff somewhere though. If you have high arches and don't take care of them enough, you might develop issues like plantar fasciitis.
If by "take care of" you mean "stretch," then yes. Stretching will help prevent issues like plantar fasciitis.
If by "take care of" you mean "get shoes with arches to fit your arch," then no, you will only create a better environment for plantar fasciitis to develop.
not doctrine but from the fpinsole.com website:
"HIGH ARCH - You need an impact absorbing insole without arch support to combat Supination.
Supination - The exact opposite of Over Pronation. Your arch is too high which causes your ankle to roll outwards upon impact.
You tend to roll and sprain your ankle, get heel bruises, are more likely to break your ankle.
Because your ankle leans outwards, orthotics/arch support will generally be ineffective. Most impact is sent to your heels and forefoot so you need as much impact protection as possible. This is why we have specially made our kingfoam (elite) insoles series for you."
