New shoe day. Hole through the bottom in the old ones. Same shoe different colorway. Different color sole worries me a bit, let's see. Black sole was very grippy.

These are Mantecas, right?

Yes sir, the Manteca 4 Hi. Great shoes for skating. Durable, grippy, and most importantly good ankle support.

Blue sole was fine glad to say.

Previous shoes:

eS Accel OG: nice shoe but a bit bulky and honestly not a hell of a lot of support for a cupsole. Still comfy however. Didn’t skate these for long.

Emerica Winkowskis: Great shoe, but basically no impact protection or support. My feet would hurt after just wearing these throughout the day. Performance and quality wise they are excellent, but put some better insoles in them.

Adidas Superstar ADV: excellent shoe, at first.. once they wear in they soften a lot and become sort of soggy feeling and the insole and midsole compress so much you lose a lot of support. Basically they lose performance rather quickly.

Vans Half Cab: cool shoe, looks great and wears in nicely, but I didn’t enjoy skating them much, so now they are just my work shoes. First day wearing them I got a blister from the collar but after that it softened a bit and was fine. The biggest gripe I had with these is the Pop Cush insole, sort of sandbag feeling at the heel and very little support at the ball/toe (obviously for board feel), so there is this weird contrast between either end of your feet. My toes would hurt skating these, maybe a more consistent feel across the whole insole would help.

My current favourite.

Nike SB Blazer Mid: as much as I didn’t want to fall into this trend, I wanted shoes with good ankle protection and I do like how they look, still I was skeptical. Finally got some in a colourway I wanted and man I get the hype. Nice consistent support, great ankle protection, lightweight and skate really well. And they were the cheapest out of all of these shoes so far!

My SB Blazer Mids are on their last legs now but agree that they are great shoes. Only thing is I swapped the insoles for FP Gamechangers and they feel perfect once they are on. But that's why I don't want to get them again - they are a pita to get on or off. I have a couple pairs of Walmart Etnies to use when the Blazers are completely shot but was planning to check out NB Numeric 440 High V2 next if they are easier to wear. I want the ankle support of mid/high shoes, don't care as much about cushioning since I have FPs to fix any shoe in that department and would like them to not require the time of loosening laces and still having to struggle to put them on and off.

The 440V2 isn't any easier to get on/off than the Blazer Mid, but I feel the compromise is worth it because the 440s are such a consistently strong shoe. I'd recommend the Adidas Superskate if cushioning isn't a concern. And if the idea of a $100 shoe without tongue centering straps excites you while seeing it begin to buckle and lose shape after a couple sessions. But, pro: they are actually easy to take on and off.

Thanks for the recommendation! I also have a pair of Adidas Copa that I really like the feel of (with FP insoles as well) but I got the Blazers to replace them because I wanted the ankle protection. But the idea of no tongue centering straps and falling apart quickly do not excite me, even if they are easy to take on and off. I have some shitty Etnies that seem good for now but I did notice the tread is ridiculously thin on them so not sure how long they will really last. For $20 a pair, I don't really care as long as I have enough warning before I have to get something new. Looks like I might have to go try out some other shoes now since I don't want the 440s anymore if they are as difficult to wear as the Blazers. What about the 480 Highs? Are they easier to get on/off?

Of course. I mean, the Superskates did skate well and seem durable in the uppers. But they're a thin cup with little cushioning. Just feels like Adidas is cashing in on their rep with this shoe. I say that as someone with 2 pairs of Tyshawns that I love for chilling (but not necessarily skating). Maybe the Pro Model would be better? Wear tested posted a review I found similar to my (limited) experience with the Superskates: https://www.weartested.com/adidas-superskate/

As for the 480 highs, I don't have any experience with those. The 440 original and V2 are still the best shoe I've skated though so I can deal with the little annoyance of getting on/off.

Thanks for the additional feedback. I never considered NB shoes in my life but all the hype and praise they get have me curious.

In an interesting turn of events ... I have ended up on a board and in a pair of shoes I wouldn't have imagined ever choosing a month ago.

And a gif of me warming up before my phone overheated almost immediately at 112 degrees

Pants has always been a mental thing for me ... the long sleeves is due the sun being rough on this little patch of eczema I have.  Overheating is better than the alternative ... but I'm def with you on it

Absolutely, literally made the choice between Mantecas for 50 or Dunks for 150 when I bought some. But if Dunks are the original and these the Skechers version then, credit where due..

I'll get you the exact info next time I'm around them but they are some Former Austyn pants I got off Depop for like $20.  One of the best buys I've had on there.  Didn't know what to expect but they ended up being a great fit and super comfy

I have some mesh Nike runners that I wear as chillers and they are, by miles, the most comfortable shoe I own.
