Did you have your first session with these? How'd it go? Been breaking mine in off the board and been thinking about when I'll try them out. I went with black laces too.
I walked around in them a couple times and wanted to break them in more but just too over my other shoes so yeah, I tried them out last night. First impressions are they are the most supportive shoes I’ve skated since the 90s, which makes sense since they are similar to the Nike basketball shoes I used to skate back then. Grip is insane compared to what I’ve been riding with but my only recent shoes have been shitty Walmart Etnies that basically had no outsole to begin with and my other skate shoes have been worn through for a long time. Also skating my newer deck so the grip tape is a lot more fresh. Impact protection seems good but I didn’t really pop much. Either way, I’m going to try the stock insoles for a while before I decide if I want to swap my FPs in. I also noticed that in the past, Ive always loved insoles with a lot of arch support but I’ve been mostly on barefoot shoes outside of skateboarding and since it’s been building my arches, these insoles feel like they might be too much but I’m sure they will get better as they break in.
Bottom line, they feel like they’ll be really great but need some more breaking in. When I was walking in them, I felt like the outsole might be too wide/flat/bulky if that makes sense but felt fine on a skateboard. I think a lot of that is just not having shoes like this in decades. My feet feel really secure in them and once they break in, they’ll be extremely comfortable but I’m not sure if this is the kind of sho I want to keep skating in yet. There’s probably a reason I stopped skating super tech basketball shoes back in the day and I think I might prefer something that doesn’t exist yet.
I think the perfect shoe for me will have an upper built exactly like the 480, a cupsole like my adidas Copas (very thin for a cup), but all in a barefoot shoe shape and flex and FP insole material.

The irony...I just laced these up and thought of you skating in them
Oh hell yeah man, those are so sick. Hope you’re able to get out of the house and get some clips in them!
Those blue Brooklyn projects 480s look even better on foot. I love skating the suede 480s so much
I keep going back and forth on NBs being the ugliest shoes in existence (other than my Barefoot shoes) and looking pretty good. I do think I’m happy I got the blue and can overall say the look is growing on me or it’s just that they are so well made, I can accept the look.
