Like I said, I could run KDE and amarok and it would look pretty, but with only 512mb of RAM it would be maaaad slooooow. Besides, I want to hear my mp3s, not watch them. It's a stock fluxbox theme with a nighttime downtown skyline (happens to be Melbourne) as a backdrop—I like it.

yeah man i get it, although i'm also playing mp3s on a 512 mb pc, all in a pretty gui, no problem, and gnome's said to be the slowest amongst the enviroments

i just don't think it was wise to start some cli ftp client or whateva before taking that screenshot, it's gunna scare people away

anyways, nice to see someone's using linux, stay fresh brotha

I find KDE to be a bit more resource-hungry than Gnome, and I could run either and maybe XMMS (WinAmp clone) and one or two tabs in Firefox, but anything else and I'd be headed for swap hell. Because I like to keep a browser with 20 tabs going, play mp3s, run LimeWire, an FTP client, and maybe an instant messenger all at once I'm pretty much forced into Fluxbox if I want to keep things speedy. Once you start going into swap (virtual memory on your hard disk) it doesn't matter what OS you have--it starts running like poo.

My girl's MacBook had 512mb of RAM and half the time I would be staring at that spinning beach ball cursor, ready to focus the thing. Now with 1.25gb the beach ball seldom shows up.
