Anybody play Disco Elysium? It’s a point and click adventure about an amnesiac detective solving a murder in a highly socially politicized town wherein your actions and statements influence the characters around you. You can play as a radical communist to a sociopathic fascist to a lazy socialist (note that these adjectives aren’t tied to any political philosophy) or just a cowardly dipshit. Every interaction can lead to what seems like endless text trees where pertinent decisions are made. The story becomes more complex as it advances but never loses its sense of humor. Also the voice acting is brilliant.

I think it released in 2021 and has been relatively popular with the indy crowd and has been featured in video game podcasts. I’d like to be able to talk to people about it but I don’t know anyone who has played the game.
[close]

oh man, i fired it up like four times now, but i make such slow progress that i kind of get distracted by other stuff. i like it, but i usually get sleepy after an hour of playing, and i'm very slow in these types of games, so i haven't made it far. something happens and i don't get to play it for a few days and my senile brain has forgotten most of the plot so far.

have you finished it? i really want to start it back up again. i might try and run it on my notebook so i can play it in bed. that sounds like a good idea.
[close]
I wanted to talk about this game because I want to like it so bad, but yes, it's slow and hard to concentrate on. It seems like such an indy darling that it must be me that is fucking up the experience, but now I'm looking at 2 for 2 people thinking it's boring. It seems endless text trees about the intricacies of racism and politics can only get one so far.
[close]

I made it to the part where the rotten kids claim rape or whatever and maybe I pushed on a bit further but also just got bored and stopped playing. It's one of those games you're "supposed" to like but for some reason never clicked for me. I guess since skaters thrive on indie culture-type stuff this shit is easily marketed to us then fails on delivery? I don't know.

I have so many games I mean to finish or even try at the very least but I lack motivation and time. I'm very weak to any of the indie darling type games though that have a certain style or unique game play element.
[close]

this is how i feel about this game. i like a lot about it, i think it's well written, has great art and music, but it just doesn't hold my interest overall. i'm literally dozing off after an hour of play. and haven't even got shit done in the game. so to make progress i would probably have to invest 2-3 hours again. but i wouldn't even make it that far.

maybe i'll restart the game on my laptop and try to finish it on trainrides or something. it might lend itself well to that.

Completed it while on quarantine in 2021 - starts off great, got slow in the middle but the ending was great in the path I chose. The dialog and voice acting is excellent but I found myself skipping through most of the it just to get to the skill check, and I was save scumming on specific questions just to force an outcome which is the opposite of how you're supposed to play.

Fun 1-off experience that I won't play again, I don't have the patience to deal with that much dialog and watch all the endings. You have to be in the mood for 100% organic game, if not the lack of direction and dicking around dialog trees is a slog.

Just got my home PC rebuilt and it's a tiny toasty beast. Got a catalog of games saved on Steam, but knowing me I'll probably go back to playing Cemu / Yuzu emulators.

Finishing off Tales of Vesperia definitive edition on switch atm, then I need to wade into a massive backlog and decide what's next...possibly Torna:GC before xenoblade chronicles 3.

Finally found a copy of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess that wasn’t $100 and up. Unfortunately, it’s the Wii version, but it’s still so much fun.

The Gamecube version is worth a good bit. I've seen it go for like $120USD and up. Just checked eBay and the CASES by themselves are selling for like $40. Absolutely ridiculous.

Wii version rules in my opinion... doesn't have full 1:1 sword integration like Skyward Sword which gets annoying

Pretty much all first party Nintendo games end up being worth money on the secondary market after a while... they don't do tons of production runs and they don't do very many 'Classic's' reprints like Sony does

Dam the reason I never played it was I just finished skyward sword when I got it and fucking hated playing it because of the Wii remote gimmick. (I had a fucked wrist at the time). So many things I've fucked up on but actually had a decent amount of Nintendo stuff and kept all the boxes, manuals etc for years. Then one day my mum had just thrown it all out.

Very true. I just would have preferred the GameCube version over the Wii version. The full 1:1 sword mechanics in SS were fucking awful. I remember getting that one for Christmas the year it came out and being disappointed/annoyed with how it played...still beat it tho.

Yeah, I like that game but it's also just a bit of a slog in my opinion. Thought it was about to end a few times only to get sent on yet another quest to find three artifacts... does cool stuff with setting up the entire lore of the franchise though

RE2 remake is great!

I have really gotten into the Lawnmower simulator as of late. Is it ground breaking? Not necessarily. But, it is perfect for what I wanted. Completely mindless, yet satisfying game play.

I have fantasized about quitting my job and cutting lawns and this scratches that itch.  There is no soundtrack. Just mowing. And trimming with a weed wacker.

I am praying they make a sequel.

Got Cemu (Wii U emulator) up and running and been clocking a few hours of BOTW every night. I did about 50 hours in 2020 during lockdown without finishing the main quest, not sure if I want to do it all again.

At least the motion controls kind of work with a mouse out of the box. I was stuck at a shrine puzzle trying to guide a ball through a maze, let my wife take over while I went to get dinner ready. 15 minutes later she nailed it, never been prouder of her especially since the only game she stuck hours into was Animal Crossing.

Pirated Skater XL and Minecraft with my kid (I hate it so much)

He enjoyed Slime Rancher though so maybe I'll get the sequel on PC tomorrow to distract him from the mindless blocks.

Minecraft isn't my thing because I'm 33 but it does seem that it can be a good creative tool for younger kids if they're actually building things and not just running around aimlessly... people have built functioning computers inside the game, it's pretty crazy

Been carrying my buddy through Bloodborne which I'm playing for the umpteenth time and also trying to squeeze in some hours to finish Judgment

I got a new full-size custom arcade built and just received the PC for it yesterday so hopefully have it up and running within two weeks. Only part I'm really worried about is the lightguns as I've never set them up before but I'm sure I'll fumble my way through it fine.

Yeah that's why I originally let him play it and bought it at his request, thinking about the  unlimited creative potential. But him and this weiner Milhouse kid he brings over just run around aimlessly doing the stupidest shit, switching between creative and survival mode attacking each other or anything that moves. I try to suggest they stay in creative mode and make a goal to build something specific but they'll build half a house of some kind then start arguing about it and go back to their unfocused ADD stream of consciousness game mode. It's maddening to watch. Sometimes they'll spend nearly 10 minutes trying to write console commands incorrectly. I blame YouTube which I barred totally but have no control over when he's at his mother's. Probably too young at 6 also to understand some of the game mechanics.

I far more enjoyed his Mario and Pokemon phases as we could actually enjoy playing games together. I quite enjoyed playing pokemon cards with him too since I never actually knew how to play the game. At worst it at least encouraged basic math and critical thinking skills.

My kids play that fucking roblox game. I cant stand it. I just dont let them add anyone that i dont know. Weirdos everywhere. As for myself i beat Stray a while back and i have been playing layers of fear 2. Beat the first one and it was decent. I mostly only play fps games. I also play dayz often.

Fallout New Vegas earlier today, I booted up Call of Duty World at War but didn't actually play

Been watching lots of reviews on the Fallout series and I'm amazed at how open ended they made 1, 2 and New Vegas. I'm tempted to dip my toes in but the overload of choices may give me serious analysis paralysis.

I just bought Foxhole, it’s literally a ww1 slaughter simulator. It’s a gigantic clusterfuck of death and explosions with +4k players on a single map in real time, you can coordinate +50 player pushes with voice commands… it’s absolutely fucked and often hilarious.

You can really do/build anything you want, me and my pal literally built a goddamn heavy battleship by ourselves and picked a dozen guys and went on a joyride bombing enemy cities until I got stuck on a rock and a train artillery crew blew us up while some guy on the ship played « My Heart will go on » thru his mic. Really fun :)

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow.

Had just finished my classes and it seemed like a good choice. I hadn't played it since the days it was on GBA. I really liked discovering Easter eggs for the first time in a while. Tried playing Dawn of Sorrow on my phone after. Got about halfway through. Stuck at the Puppet Master cause of touchscreen controls. Anyway it was nice to play something from beginning to end for the first time in a long time. I'd recommend Advance Collection on Switch to anyone

Been going hard on Left 4 Dead 2 recently specifically 10v10 servers. Kinda wild to me a 13 year old game is more fun than anything that’s come out over the past year.
Can someone explain in Fortnite terms?

That was Valve's magnum opus for FPS, they really nailed pick-up-and-play simplicity.

Still working my way through BOTW, why Nintendo though motion control puzzles were a good idea baffles me.
