the four horsemen of thrash metal

Metallica (first four cds)
Anthrax (till persistence of time)
Slayer (with dave lombardo on the drums)
Megadeth (till marty friedman left)

i listen to a lot of metal specially thrash metal but those four where the best ever.

Yeah, Bodom is pretty weak.

Pantera is one of those bands I only listen to if I'm in the mood for a laugh. Like Earth Crisis or something.

There's some really good metal bands in Michigan. I'm gonna plug a couple friends' bands if you don't mind
Supercontinent - heavy, melodic stoner metal in the vein of Isis, Mouth of the Architect...
Incisor - instrumental thrash metal

I saw Exodus last week. They were pretty damn good.

A lot of good bands were posted. Here's some of my favorites that haven't been mentioned yet...

Annihilator
Death
Necrophagist
Destruction
Sodom
Carcass
Venom

All the bands dorkball listed are good, the ones I've heard at least. Some other stuff...

Mouth of the Architect - As far as slow, heavy, melodic bands go, these guys are definitely up there
Mono - Kind of a heavy Mogwai
Russian Circles - Hard to describe, same vein as Pelican, Isis, whatever, but have their own sound
Burst - Like Isis, but more condensed, song based, definitely worth checking out
Earth - HHEAAAAAAVVVVYYYY
Unearthly Trance - Slow, dirty, fucking awesome
FaceDownInShit - See Unearthly Trance description
High on Fire - One of the best metal bands on the planet. Matt Pike of Sleep's band
Lair of the Minotaur - Heavy and gnarly
Boris - Heavy, rockin', look into them right now
The Hidden Hand - Kind of like Sabbath, but sped up
Sweet Cobra - Chicago stoner metal/crustcore
Genghis Tron - Electro-grind. Great, original band

There's plenty more, but this is a good start as far as bands in the last few years go. Bear in mind I mentioned Isis two or three times in this post, and I recommend check them out if you haven't already.

Damn some of these bands that I've never heard of are pretty good. Off the top of my head, I've been listening to Dimmu, Ensiferum, Kalmah, Dying Fetus, Napalm Death, Witchery, and Naglfar lately.
