Video editing programs...
« on: February 19, 2008, 11:12:52 PM »
I'm looking for a decent program that's somewhat easy to use that doesn't take up much space on my computer, nothing too crazy. I used to have Pinnacle Studio 8, now I only have Windows Movie Maker...

help.

premiere pro is really good, for beginners or something easier try premiere elements, it's a lot cheaper and very self explanatory.

i'd link you but i'm in school and can't get to it.

I use a mac, but my friend does a lot of editing and he liked Vegas 8 a lot.  The codec is better with Vegas than with Premier.

I know he downloaded it.

I got Vegas Pro 8 and at the end of the installation it reads:

"Please make sure you have local system administrator privileges on this system. Canceling the installation."

FUCK, I can't figure this out...

Did you buy it or torrent? Cuz I've had many a problem with AFX torrents, so I'd assume same would go for Vegas.

I'd suggest looking through all the comments, if you havent, because in the case of my afx and premiere pro they had some detailed instructions in there that didn't come in the read-me file. But I've never installed Vegas, just used it at my friend's house, so I dunno if it's different.

sometimes torrents can be pretty old, you have to download them until you find one that works. also i would suggest scanning them for a virus before you install them, some can be pretty vicious that will wipe out your whole computer.

Final Cut Pro and After Effects is what I use, religiously.

But if you're on a PC, you're BEST bet is Adobe Premiere. Premiere has the closest layout to FCP and if you end up getting more serious with editing and upgrade to a mac, you'll adjust easier to using FCP.

After Effects is a whole different story though.. You can rock it on a PC. Doing the time-remapping (transworld slowmos) is pretty simple, but everything else is confusing as fuck at first.

Real gentlemen don't do compositing. The compositing is done for them by the computer.

Okay, I've tried everything... Different torrents, cracks, etc... none work.
I tried getting the trial and using a key-gen, nothing works... After Effects wouldn't work either. I'm screwed I guess...

Vegas seems pretty tight though...

You get the full AFX or Premiere for 30 days with those trials.  I got to learn alot in AFX in that time.  Just used these tutorials: http://www.videocopilot.net/basic/ae_introduction.html

As far as editing, Adobe Premiere and After Effects are my staples... Premiere is pretty easy to pick up on, but After Effects has quite a learning curve, as it's like Photoshop with a timeline. I'm hoping to get lost and figure out Final Cut Pro by this weekend after my new computer gets here.
