I am using Mail 2.1.1 that came with the computer. Open that and go to preferences and select Add Account. Under Default Email Reader select Mail 2.1.1. Under account type, select POP. Then continue and add your incoming mail server, outoging, etc. Don't click on anything that refers to .Mac.

He was trying to set up a .Mac account and since Apple develops both Mail and .Mac, there is an automatic set-up when using .Mac as the account type. For any other account type(GMail, AOL, Comcast, etc) use POP or IMAP, depending on your account type.

Yeah, I know. I was suggesting giving up on the .Mac and just going with the POP set up using the Mail application.

I guess I'm a little confused as to wether he's trying to create a new account or set up an existing account. It isn't hard to set up an active .Mac account...should take about 2 minutes. I help people do this everyday and I've never had any issues with an active .Mac account with an accurate username and password.

You'll have to get that from your provider. Also ask them which port to use.

I don't even know how I would contact them. I switched to the 587 port, I remember something about a 900 port once anyone know about that? Sorry Im not computer savvy.

It's probably 25, that seems to be the default port most use. Your provider is who you pay your monthly bill to. If you don't pay the bill you'll have to ask somebody who does.

I'll check back tomorrow.
