South Texas winter storm, we aren’t used to this kinda cold at all down here.
Yesterday morning I tried to go to work, all roads covered in ice, as soon as I exited my apartment complex I slid out into a curb and it took 10 minutes for me to get back across the street to my apartment.
2 other cars slid out into the curb a few minutes after me but luckily we were all about 30 feet from one another.
I called into work.
We haven’t had power for 30 hours, no heat. I stink, I need to shower but no warm water, it’s straight ice cold.
This morning I took a bath with baby wipes, fabreeze, and cologne. Roads are still going to be icy when I leave for work in a few minutes but at least the sun is coming out by 8am today.
I work mostly outside (cleaning rental car returns) , the last week had been pretty shitty at work. But I work with cars so at least after I’m in a car for 5 minutes the heater starts working.
I slept in a weird position and my neck has a big knot feeling.
Wish I could just call in today also but I don’t wanna do that to them at work.
Yesterday was at least super slow at work. I work 8am-5pm. Yesterday around noon I told the boss I could go in and they were like, eh it’s chill, another worker with a big ass truck and good tires went in and they said just take the day off, so that’s a plus.
Most food places are closed because lots of parts of the city don’t have power. We waited in line at churches fir an hour yesterday lol. I haven’t had churches in a super long time but their chicken tenders were good.
Another positive is the roads aren’t covered in ice today.
I can’t image what homeless people are going through down here. At least I still have shelter, a car, and a job.
