I got a Flip Arto Saari Board in 2001 when I was 12 or something. My first trucks were yellow Ventures with bees on it.. Found a picture:

I was into this the more colors the better thing.. I used the wheels from the board I got in some sports shop half a year before this. I wore them down from 54mm to like 45mm. I ripped them 2 whole years i think.

Well the first newis board I had was a Varaflex complete from Target, it was my older brother Jeremy's but he threw a fit and He ended up with the Lance Mountain with the Yellow Little dude doing a flip or someshit. Needless to say this guy get's the new/used for-a-day Varaflex, 89ish I was 9 or 10.

First New board was a Ray Barbee mini with the like sock dude ruffling the cards, old gullwings and some onld OJII's.

Matt Hensley Black Label. It was way too big for me, but i loved it.

I also had some ugly bronze destructos, speed demon bearings and some spitfires.

I think it was 2002, I was 12 or 13 at the time.

The first board I really skated on was either a Valterra or a Variflex or something back in 1985, then I think in '86 I got a Nash that I skated for longer than anyone could imagine. It was a fucking beast, but I learned a lot on it. My first real good board was a Jeff Grosso toybox in 1987, with Indys, some OJII Combos, and I think I had a Cellblock III on the back truck... unless that was on my next setup.

my first board was some kind of random Nash that my aunt got me for my birthday.  i think it was '86 or so.  a year or two later i got a Nash Nightmare 2.  the graphics were killer, but the board sucked so bad that I never wanted to skate again.

a couple years later i decided I wanted to start skating again, and I got my first real set-up that Christmas.  It was a red Lance Mountain with the family crest graphic, white Tracker trucks with the plastic baseplates, and gray Schmitt Stix Sawblades wheels. I was 10 years old and the year was 1989.  My mom made me put a tail guard on the board to "make it last longer", so it was  pretty much ruined from day one.  It took me years to learn how to ollie.  jump ramps, skating in the rain, heavy metal...shit was fun back then...

My dad brought me home a fiber glass banana board from the garbage dump when i was 10 or so. It had roller skate trucks on itwith big red urethane wheels. The thing was next to impossible to ride, super wheel bite on a 5 inch wide deck haha.

then this kid Eddy who wore the Misfits 85 skull shirt to school everyday gave me a purple powell mini logo right before he got locked up for burning down his parents house. I had that shit for a minute.

The first board i got to choose was in 7 or 8th grade in 98 0r 99. I was a green Paul Zuanich Think deck with two girls bent over farting. In the middle was a fart cloud that said THINK in the center. I got some ejaculator wheels, i think they were made by World or something, they were supposed to look like there was semen inside of them. The trucks were indys and Black Panther abec 5 bearings. That set up was fun as hell.

Tony Hawk hammerhead. Some trackers and some Rat bones. It was 1988 I was 11 years old and SOOOO stoked I finally had a real board. (my two Variflexes i had before didn't count). I sat it next to my bed and stared at it till I fell asleep that night. The next day I traced the graphic off the board on to a sheet of notebook paper and brought it to school as proof I had a REAL Tony Hawk.

Damn, I'm a newcomer compared to you guys. I didn't start REALLY skating until about 2001 or so. My first board was a Mini Logo with fake trucks.

sheeit! I thought hammerhead only referred to the shape of the nose? Shit, I guess these years of drinking have really had an effect on me. Thanks for the clarification.

Some Think board, still don't know what the graphic was as I got it second hand. Green and silver destructos, random pig wheels, and some riser pads that I kept for at least a year. It was 2000, I was 10.

1993, 13-years-old

- Rene Matthyssen New Deal. It was green with the Beck's beer logo on it
- silver Ventures
- hand-me-down wheels that must have been about 42mm, maybe even smaller
- random assortment of bearings and hardware

Dude! No Way! Nobody I skate with or know started skating in the era besides me. They all either started before it when it was all powell and shit, or later on when wheels got big again  Its weird, but I'm hyped!

Indeed! Four wheels for life! I'll skate till I gotta roll on a wheelchair!
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”
I quit skating for a time due to piling out

glad to see i'm not the only guy who started out with a shit setup

my first board really became a huge regret for me. everyone that skated in my town had powell's with all these skulls on them and when i went to the shop my mom told me i could get anything i wanted which was rare because we were poor a shit, so i figured i'd out evil everyone and pick the board with the most gnar graphic on it which too me was this board with a reaper on the bottom. i quickly realized how regular that was when i showed up at the spot with my piece of shit board.

i always wanted to skate, but bein young i needed my parents to get a board.  they kept saying it was too dangerous so i didn't get one until one christmas...probably '98 when i was about 13.  it was nash and it sucked so bad (plastic wheels, plastic trucks, plastic kingpin perhaps?) i never could get around town with it because i would keep getting wheel bite.

finally around 2001 or 2000 my older brother got into THPS2 and he bought an enjoi jerry hsu complete with indys, spitfires, speed metal, and risers.  i started using that, then when that got beat to shit he bought a new board and i used it full time.  my first real fresh setup was a girl koston deck with destructos, spitfires, and reds.

It was 1996, I was 13 and got a powel blank, indys, spitfire wheels. My mom wouldn't fork over the extra cash for a pro deck but I didn't care cuz I had my own skateboard finally.

I started skating at 12-13 and I was mad legit, my setup was:

Small Steve Olson Shortys deck with that chinese dragon on it
Blue GrindKing trucks because I was told that they turned the best
Doesnt remeber what wheels

the best images I could find:
