Watched Alien last night for the first time. I don't know why I avoided that whole franchise for so long.

I've definitely gotta revisit Being John Malkovich myself, watched Adaptation again recently and it holds up well.
Been watching so many movies these days, the Safdie Bros' Heaven Knows What stands out; although dark there are some perfectly timed comedic bits and Ariel Pink music supervision to boot.

I've been rewatching loads of Pierce Brosnan films with some friends during quarantine.

I'll let you know when we watch a good one.

Re-watched Alien 3 for about the fiftieth time.
I don't care what anyone says, superb set and a fucking insane UK cast.

watched this for date night and it's the scariest movie I've ever seen.

might have to revisit this one, definitely unsettling

If you guys liked this, the director's came out with a new movie, The Lodge.  Super good and also unsettling.  It's on Hulu for free.

Lord of Illusions, 1995. Best Clive Barker adaptation in my opinion.

Climax by Gaspar Noe

If you’ve seen his film enter the void it’s pretty different and a lot more coherent. I guess you could call it a horror film or thriller? Either way the movie is sick in both plot and production, but for me the production makes the movie.

circling back after watching The Lodge- super unsettling for sure, pretty flimsy plot that wasn't terribly convincing but I really enjoyed it

The last good movie I saw was Blood Simple (1984)

It was directed by Joel Coen, produced by his brother, Ethan, and written by the two of them. It's their first film, and has the high energy and intensity we associate with young filmmakers who are determined to make an impression. Some of the scenes are virtuoso, including a sequence in which a dead body becomes extraordinarily hard to dispose of, and another one in which two people in adjacent rooms are trapped in the same violent showdown. The central performance in the movie is by the veteran character actor M. Emmet Walsh, who plays the private eye like a man for whom idealism is a dirty word. The other actors in the movie are all effective, but they are obscured, in a way, by what happens to them: This movie weaves such a bloody web that the characters are upstaged by their dilemmas.

Not a movie movie, a short film, but i just watched The Strange Thing About the Johnsons and it ruined my day. Directed by the dude that made Midsommar & Hereditary, Ari Aster.

Yeah I like this movie too. In highschool we had a single parent allow us to party there all the time, even when her daughter wasn't home, haha.

I just watched all of Upload on Prime, I enjoyed it.

The Lighthouse. Same director as The Witch. Personally, one of those films you have to see a few times to catch things you didn't before. It's a horror drama if you're into that kind of thing.

Seeing this in theaters was such a rich, horrifying experience. There wasn't a single weak part about the film. It was near perfect.

Do the Right Thing (1989), Malcolm X (1992), and BlacKkKlansman (2018) over the past couple of days.

Everyone watch this scene from Do the Right Thing. Look familiar to what's going on right now?

I really don't care what people think of Spike Lee as a person, he's the most influential black director in the history of cinema behind Oscar Micheaux.

Speaking of which, the origins of black cinema is actually really interesting and worth reading about. When D.W. Griffith's confederate epic The Birth of a Nation (1915) came out it was such a powerful piece of cinema that it actually lead to a resurgence of the KKK and lynchings. So Oscar Micheaux was like, "fuck all that noise" and made Within Our Gates (1920) to show positive reinforcements of African-Americans who aspired for higher education within the film. It's the earliest surviving film directed by an African-American and worth watching if you want to learn more about history.

Here it is in its best quality if anyone wants to check it out. It's a silent film mind you, so I would recommend putting on some classical music in the background as a soundtrack.

Fucking love Dead Poets Society. Have been meaning to re-watch it for like a year now. Watched it tonight with my girl, always makes me feel inspired. Carpe diem scene is powerful as well as the contributing a verse scene.
