Hey, what's your take on owning a photo printer and doing prints at home?

I'm thinking about 10x15 cm pictures of my friends for my friends.

It has been just too many times I miss the print shop deadline to get pictures ready before birthday/wedding/party whatever other event to present my friends.  :-[

from my experience - if you're trying to frame them eventually to different sizes, it can be helpful to have a paper trimmer of some kind - it's worth getting something of decent quality / size, photo paper is thicker so it wears the blade out faster than if you were just doing printer paper i think.

some 35mm

I was shooting a lot of photos from 2014 through to 2017 that I never really used for anything. I’ve started flipping through them to post them in my IG for the sake of them reaching more than the inside of a hard drive.
I do a little shooting every now and then still.
I post a mix of skateboarding, live music and general stuff from around my every day life. It’s almost on a daily basis at the moment. I don’t for how long I’ll keep that cadence, but I really just enjoy actually getting the photos out now.

Hey guys, I’m planning on trying to do a photo exhibition sometime this year for the first time and I want some advice.

I take exclusively film photos, currently sorting out hundreds of my past negatives, and trying to shoot a new series to exhibit. I want to know what’s the standard to print film photos for exhibitions? Is there a standard for print for selling works? I’ve only printed at cheap local printers, but is there some specifics I should keep in mind?

Also if anyone knows some good zine or photobook printing places that can ship at a reasonable rate to Asia (I live in Japan) I’d love to create a nice zine or photobook.

wuuuuuhuuuu my favourite topic still exists (totally forgot about it).

Maybe you hit up tokyocamerastyle on insta, he might help you with the situation in Japan. Totem Pole Gallery has a lot of 8x10 inch exhibitions, seems like a cool format if you shoot 35mm.

In the past I tried to have only a few selected (3-9) high quality prints for exhibitons, but that was years ago. never sold anything haha.

edit: posted in this thread 16 years ago for the first time ... this is insane.

I know this from a while ago, but that’s a good quiver. Those 28ti are beautiful cameras. I’m sure you got some good $ for it the way high end point and shoots sell these days.

There are a lot of options for prints. For a show I’d say they have to be archival prints for quality.
So if they’re black and white darkroom prints, they would be on nice fiber paper. I’ve done a show with RC prints, but they were priced low.
Color optical prints from a quality lab will work.
And if you’re printing from scans, high quality photo inkjet prints. I’ve used an epson p800 and it makes great prints. There are tons of paper options for inkjet. Gotta find what you like for your prints. Again,  make sure that paper is archival.

Some shots from the last 2 years … didn‘t scan or develop a picture for 1.5 year, cause of my newborn. Finally back on it.

really nice. What is up with the baby in the snow disco?

I used to work in Antarctica, and me (or my coworker, I forget, but probably me) left an infant cpr dummy outside of our work center in the winter. At some point the disco ball was added. We worked in waste management, so we found a lot of weird stuff.

I've had to shoot a lot more drone photo/video over the last year for work, so I added a section to my website that consists of only aerial images. I need to add some more from the last couple of months, but there's a small batch here.

Damn. Very tempting. I’ve used my friend’s x100v a few times. Great camera.

I got a lumix lx-10 a couple months ago. It’s a great point and shoot. No comparison to the x100 though.

Caught some nice light and I like the shadows in the ollie photos. I don’t like that background blur you did in post. Looks very unnatural. If you want to shoot wide open on bright days for shallow depth of field, you could look in getting neutral density (ND) filters. They cut down the light. I use them all the time for video work.
