The Official 2006 World Cup Thread
« on: June 07, 2006, 05:57:08 PM »
Alright, let's start the shit talking.  Who's your team?  Make your predictions now because come July 10, you can't claim that "you had them picked to win along" unless you called it here.

I'll probably lose because I'm an American and what the fuck do we know about soccer, but I'm pulling for the Ivory Coast.

Let's have your team / predictions / hates, etc.

What kind of man has a scrotum as his avatar?

I don't play soccer, I just have a fascination with the tournament.  And I enjoy following it.

I posted the topic here because I know that the kids from the rest of the world that post on a regular basis might be interested in talking shit.

I was actually going to make this thread today. I am so psyched for the world cup. I'm pulling for England but it's probably not going to happen this time. I just found out Rooney can play however so at least they'll be playing some more interesting football.

even if i'm originally from poland, i have to say that my team is germany. it's just the lil patriotism i have - only for football. i think it's gonna be hard to come to the final game, because there are still teams like england (best english team since ... since 1966?), argentina (bet brazil in the qualification), brazil (nuff said), france, italie.

okay, my prediction is ...
1.) brazil
2.) germany
3.) argentina
4.) spain

ill probably end up watching some of it, so my choice is england.

australia has pretty much no real chance of beating brazil but may make it to the 2nd round. think about it though, i remember people having doubts on whether south korea would go well in the last world cup and they reached the semi-finals, so every team has a chance to cause some upsets.

I haven't watched any football since euro '04, so I have no idea how most of the teams are playing right now. I think those are good picks though.

as in, you're gay for him? I'm pretty sure he's now a homosexual icon

anyhow, being from australia, im rooting for them. Its pretty annoying though with world cup fever. before they could qualify, everyone here was hating on football ("soccer") and calling it a sport for sheilas, wogs and poofters (fags), but now theyre in, everyone is all hunky dory. every second advertisment has a football in it. so stupid

england has a pretty good team this tournament, will be interesting to see how they fare

Winners? germany or brazil, maybe holland

I'm really surprised how many people have mentioned that they're pulling for England.  I would have thought they were the New York Yankees of the tournament.  Like, the team you love to hate.

In 2004, I was pulling for them.  I happened to be there when the tourny started and the frenzy that the country was in was really contagous.

I picked the Ivory Coast because they're the best chance of winning out of the teams that Murdo picked out of a hat.  So, I got me a whole $1.75 riding on them.  The others teams were Iran and Togo.

If / when Ivory get knocked out, I guess I'll be supporting the Brits.

I'm pulling for Germany. If they're out (not gonna happen), I'd support Japan.
The most important thing is, that Brazil doesn't make it.
The african teams unfortunately have  no chance and Netherlands should be struggling after they lost 3 midfielders in their last game...
Is there anyone who also collects those world cup stickers from panini?
