Happy to hear the amazing news, DISTANT RUMOURS.

Just came back from a little week long holiday in Marseille. Had a lot of fun and skated my ass off in the heat every day, downtown is getting new plazas everywhere or so it appears, there really is a trend in European cities to update their looks with crazy shit, in France first Bordeaux and now this and I'm seeing the phenomenon spreading over to smaller towns, I find it interesting where it's going. Looking forward to how they work things out with the inhabitants though as some skaters from Paris have already been caught on camera tagging shit on the shop windows nearby (so edgy, so smart). A week was too short to see much of everything, the city is bigger than I expected, the scene is super nice and dates from way back so with plenty of history. Spent way over budget most notably due to some transportation fuck up which worried me for a second and then I came home to some tax return. Also brought a lot of great weed back, and got like ten clips. Friend hosting me having no Internet access made for a great disconnection too, I needed the holiday.

Rediscovering this thread got me stoked. The world is depressing enough as it is and I need this positivity in my life.

Got a really bad hipper landing primo on a pop shove on Sunday; it was ok initially then it got really swollen after 15 minutes. Intense pain that only got better after lots of painkillers and a nights sleep. Was finally able to walk around the apartment without screaming internally today so I know it's not a fracture which is good news at any age, especially so if you're in you're mid 30s like me

Different crew, starts with an R. I had never heard of them before that incident either and only just now looked them up, they have your basic 1k followers on IG, relatively small fish. Shop owners were literally walking over to every skater on the plaza and showing them the security footage on their phone in case they would know the painters and snitch. Some of the glass that was tagged is some expensive shit that can't be cleaned up and has to be downright replaced. This totally doesn't belong in this thread though. One of those guys told us he had been excited about skaters starting to frequent the plaza from now on until that happened - it was quite sad and I had to insist on how those kids weren't real skaters but just idiots with skateboards (quite typically).

Distant Rumours that's wonderful news about your lady.

I finally learned backside lipslides. They're definitely nothing to brag about, basically skidded backside disasters, but I've been trying to land them since 91.
There's a new rainbow curb under the BQE by Lorimer.
Getting pain management and physical therapy referrals for my degenerative discs/spinal cysts/right knee.
Reading Charles Willeford novels. So good.
I'll get to visit with my friend and his fiancé before they move down to Atlanta.

Managed to reconnect with a friend I met while picking up skateboarding last year. He was buying some stuff I was selling and knew it was him instantly. Didn't have his contact number then but I have it now, we're skating on Saturday morning. 30+ skaters killing it at 7am.

A few days ago I deleted my account for that toxic, cesspool of a website that is facebook. Fuck that noise. Bunch of chickens with their heads cut of. Only used it for event notifications for shows and shit I’m interested in, but all that info can be found elsewhere. One less bullshit social media account gone. It’s basically just for assholes yelling at each other anyway.

Edit: Basically SLAP but no dick pics and not nearly as fun.

Hey Rocklobster - I guess the way I'm getting into them is more of a scoop than a 90 degree ollie. I'm regular stance and started winding my shoulders back to my left/counterclockwise to help me spring in the reverse direction of right/clockwise like I learned disasters on mini. There's probably a much better way to do them but I'll take my little victories where I can get them. I hope that helps!
I'm very stoked on Yoga With Adriene (and her dog Benji). I did these stretches yesterday and it felt really good.

I recently discovered this channel and would use one of her yoga routines daily for my brief stint working manual labor at a warehouse, but nowadays I've just been using the same routine as a warm up stretch before I go skate.

Hell yeah man that kind of affirmed my own theory about the trick. I was able to get it onto a low curb by going at a sharper angle, scooping my tail and pointing my nose down. Probably will work for low ledges or rails but anything higher and you will need the proper Kirchart or Arto technique (all back foot and hip rotation).

Last night, my wife told me my daughter wanted me to teach her how to skateboard. Today, I got her pushing around again even though it was blazing hot outside. She and her brother both had fun rolling around the hood and hopefully this can be a daily thing even after they start online school in September.

This is the kind of thing I visit this thread for. My wife and I don't have kids but I introduced my nephew to skateboarding Christmas last year. My heart soared when I saw him pushing around on their tiny boards or tic tacking around the park.

Woke up at 6 for a 630 morning flatground session. Decided against going to the park was a bus ride away and I was feeling too lazy to hop up tall ledges. Decent session before the rain came down, I think I could make it a regular thing. Sure beats only skating on the weekends.
