I haven't skated a real backyard pool for over a decade.

Last Saturday I scoped out a pool based on some recon I had done. It's the only thing left from a house that was scraped, sitting in a huge open dirt lot. It's in a rich neighborhood with houses close by. The bust factor seemed pretty high.

Sunday morning I meet up with a friend and we hit it at 9:30am thinking that we would do a fifteen-minute barge. Ten minutes a neighbor walks over. My friend and I look at each other, knowing the session is done.

The neighbor however tells us how he used to skate, and how he used to skate pools too. He's stoked and gives us the thumbs up.

We ended up skating for an hour. The pool had a smooth and chalky finish and wasn't cancerous at all, and it had all of the complexities of something not made to skate. The shallow end was especially fun. It really brought me back to my younger days and what makes skateboarding so exciting.

Looking forward to hopefully hitting it up a few more times.

And it really makes me want to seek out more natural terrain.

Covid caused alot of the tech people that lived in sf to split town. Rent has gone down and for the first time in my life I am moving into a place with a garage and some extra space. It’s not a lot of extra space but it’s more then I’ve ever had before and for that I am thankful.

unless it's permitted, more rural land is SoHum seems to be dropping or leveling in price.

I used to work for Humboldt County (2017-2020) and asked about such things with old coworkers still employed there, as such stated rent hikes that like that would actually violate county and city ordinances. I just ran though craigslist and things seem to be the same. I lived in Eureka, Arcata, and Humboldt Hill as well for reference. Moreover checking Zillow I couldn't find evidence of unwarranted price hikes without major capital improvements to the property as stated in the history of value. Adversely, the top results often showed price cuts near 20,000+.

If you see such hikes, report them. You and your homies might actually come up on cheaper rent. Adversely, if there is evidence lacking to the hype, squander it. Rural fears often become fall into echo chambers and hinder critical thought on issues. Worse, scum/slumlords often prey upon such fears, such as the Squires if you're familiar.

The session got rained out when I was on the bus 5 minutes out from the park. Skated a traffic cone for a bit, landed on my elbow and I was over the session pretty quick. Plus side I had an hour long conversation with an older skater from the 90s era. Had some great conversation talking about classic video parts, the current state of skateboarding, what is / isn't skateboarding and holy grail skate collectables. Most of the locals don't know care about skate history so finding someone on the same wavelength was refreshing. I think we could have talked for hours about Video Days and old Crailtap videos. He's got gear madness too so it's fun to met another in the wild.

I’d been dating this girl for the last two or so months and while we had lots of fun together, lots of good sex and everything... we just didn’t love each other or even had that ‘spark’. I think we were just seeing each other not to be lonely.

She’s an awesome girl, but truth be told, we just didn’t connect as much as we should have and we decided to end things last night like adults. Honestly,  I’ve never been happier about a relationship ending.
